Buffy returning to big screen?

Michelle Trachtenberg and Sarah Michelle Gellar at a Buffy Reunion 2008The Australian Herald Sun newspaper is reporting that the success of the new vampire-themed Twilight could bring a return of Buffy the  Vampire Slayer to the big screen. It even says a screenplay is written and ready to be filmed.  Buffy first hit the big screen in 1992, but the movie, starring Kristy Swanson, was a flop. However, when Joss Whedon brought it to the small screen and cast Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead role, the series was a hit and ran for years. It’s not clear whether Gellar would be brought back for the role — she’s now 31 — or whether a new, younger actress would be cast.

No way, Sarah Michelle Gellar all the way. I wonder if David Boreanaz will be in it too…

I wonder if the script would continue from the end of the tv series or from the comic series that continued Buffy’s adventures? I would love a where are they now movie rather than a reboot.

Don’t make this a flop like the X-Files movie. And if there is no Sarah in it, I don’t see the point. Call it something else if the real Buffy is not in it.

i agree with chucky-baby, i hope its a like a what happened finale for the characters, kinda showing what they’re doing now, who they’re with, how’s life, etc. And the fact that she’s 31 now is not a problem at all! It’s because of her the tv series was a hit, so why ruin it? Plus the age factor works because she’s expected to look older anyway.

I hope they cast Sarah Michelle Geller! Who cares if shes 31? That’s not even old. I think it could lead to a great storyline. I like the idea Kiwi had, about seeing how life is now for the characters. I hope the movie gets made, but only with Sarah Michelle Geller as Buffy. Maybe they could convince Joss Wheden to direct! That would be EPIC!

‘Gotta be as many of the original cast as possible — at the Very least Sarah Michelle and Josh W !!

Joss has said before he was just waiting for Sarah to decide when she wanted to do it. I think she was a fool not to do an 8th season of Buffy, look at the dribble she has done since! She needs this movie bad!

I hope that the whole cast will be in this movie, if it is being made. Sarah Michelle Gellar better be in this movie.

buffy the vampire slayer is a dumb and unoriginal idea and should not be brought back ever again.

As for Kevin,he is a fool and an ignorant human being, but he is entitled to his silly opinions. As for Buffy and the rest of the Scoovies, bring them all back and keep the story moving forward.Maybe make it a trilogy if the first one is a smash.Team Buffy from the original T.V. series is the one to have, and of course get Josh Whedon to direct. Can not wait!!!

If itsgoing to be a “Buffy” film, then we’re talking Sarah M; if its to be a “Vampire Slayer” film, then its a free reign. The series ended with a whole generation of slayers being “activated”, so it could make for a wild amazonian women vampire slayers attack the bowels of hell kind of movie- and the tie-in video game will be AWESOME!
