Burger King apologizes to Mary J Blige

Food chain Burger King is apologizing to R&B diva Mary J. Blige after releasing an ad that caused considrable backlash. The clip features Blige singing a soulful tune about Burger King’s new Crispy Chicken Snack Wraps. The commercial quickly went viral; with some people in the black community calling it stereotypical. Burger King pulled the ad from YouTube early this week after viewers complained. They said in a statement to AP that it was “released prematurely before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained.” Blige told TMZ, “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip, so I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw to go out.” Burger King apologized to Blige and her fans and they say they hope to have the final “finished” ad on air soon. ~Kayla Thompson

Society has got to stop trying to fabricate problems when there isn’t one. Just because Mary is an African American, she can’t be in an Ad which says the word “chicken” (not even fried chicken as the so called stereotype specifies)? If it was a beef burger would it be a problem? The finger pointers are the ones perpetuating stereotypes by trying to label and categorize what is appropriate for a person of any given race to be a part of. It’s absolutely ridiculous and BK or Mary shouldn’t have to apologize for it.
