Canadian Music Week 2014 CHUM FM FanFest

Canadian Music Week 2014 took over Toronto from Tuesday, May 6 to Saturday, May 10, 2014. The 32nd CMW offered conferences, exhibitions, award shows, a film festival, a comedy festival and Canada’s biggest New Music Festival. It all happened fast – five days of live performances showcasing 1,000 bands at more than 60 live music venues in downtown Toronto. Some of the music industry’s major names headlined the CHUM FM FanFest show at Kool Haus Friday night. The event featured English singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ellie Goulding; chart-topping Canadian duo Tegan and Sara; Canadian reggae-pop band Magic!; and pop stars Alyssa Reid, Kristina Maria, Andrew Allen and Cris Cab. Alyssa Reid was presented with a gold record for her hit single Alone.
The Toronto band Magic!, whose lead singer Nasri Atweh writes songs for everyone from Justin Bieber to Shakira, played their number one hit Rude. Tegan and Sara, who released their seventh album Heartthrob in January 2013, kicked off with one of their most popular songs from The Con album – Back In Your Head. The set was mostly filled with new songs such as I Was a Fool and Goodbye, Goodbye, which elicited cheers and sing-alongs from the audience. Before Ellie Goulding took the stage, the crowd started chanting “Ellie, Ellie.” And she didn’t disappoint – the Burn singer put on a great performance and was well received by the audience.
