Captain Marvel fights internet trolls before movie release

By Tribute on February 27, 2019 | 24 Comments

CAPTAIN MARVEL posterCaptain Marvel starring Brie Larson is Marvel Studios’ first female-led superhero film, but it’s been fighting “critics” for weeks before its upcoming release in theaters on March 8, 2019. Several movie sites, including this one, have had to remove early reviews due to trolls.

The film has received a lot of nasty reviews, due in part to the film being an advancement in this era of #Metoo, #Timesup and the #Fourpercentchallenge, even though it hasn’t released yet.

Sites such as Rotten Tomatoes have had to change their review systems to fight trolls who write negative comments on a film that has not yet held advance showings, therefore hasn’t even been viewed by the people leaving the reviews.

The website, which usually allows early fan reviews, is getting rid of its pre-release review option for fans. Now, fans will only be able to leave reviews or comment on a movie after it is released in theaters. Rotten Tomatoes calls it “an uptick in non-constructive input, sometimes bordering on trolling.”

The site is also changing its “want to see more” polling numbers. Before, the site used a percentage to represent how many people want to see a movie versus how many don’t; now it will only show an exact number of only the people who want to see the movie.

Showtimes.com and Tribute.ca also had to change their review systems, removing comments before the release date. With fabricated reviews and votes, these sites also had to make adjustments until the film releases.

The film hits theaters next Friday (March 8), and contrary to negative reviews, Fandango said Captain Marvel has garnered the third largest advanced ticket sales of any MCU film, behind Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, and has surpassed Wonder Woman and Aquaman during the same time period. ~Emily Chavez

Ah the lnternet, allowing good people to communicate. And bad. Trolls came out in force with Black Panther, BlackkKlansman, and Glass. I know a lot of them would like to see Captain Marvel fail. Three words: In your dreams. It looks good in the trailers. For my part, I expect it to tie up loose ends from other MCU films and be a good opening act for Avengers: Endgame. That’s all.

Come on trolls, what are you doing? Why? What’s the purpose? You just don’t like a female superhero? Or you want to stop Marel / Disney from continuing to bring cinematic stories to the big screen that we all seem to really enjoy flocking to? It’s about time Rotten Tomatoes and other sites stop allowing for advanced review comments. I disliked seeing them and many of the comments were trying to be funny having nothing to do with the movie. Time to grow up kiddies.

The first female led super hero film? Id say not long ago at all we had wonderwoman and that was a phenomenal movie.

It is Marvel’s first female lead movie. Personally I hope it rocks. The previews look well done, I like the way the characters interact with each other. And we get to see a softer side of Nick. Him and Goose were cute 🙂

But sadly there are insecure children out there that are afraid anytime a person doesn’t look like them is in the lead of something. I’m glad to hear that sites are being active in helping stem the flow of sludge those scared brats are slinging.

Fortunately I never look at these comments. I prefer to wait until a film actually comes out before I decide if it is good or not. And what was it Moms always say – “If you can’t say anything nice…..”. How people think they can rate a whole movie when all they’ve seen is a small snippet in a trailer is unbelievable. But time for people to grow up. These are just movies remember.
Personally I can’t wait to see this movie. Have been waiting since the first trailer came out. Looks good to me.

I guess only the final box office will tell. Personally, Wonder Woman is the only female hero.

This site has been actively removing negative reviews further proving that rejecting feminist propaganda is not tolerated by your online censors. The truth is people are rebelling against the entire premise of this movie and it is doomed to fail simply because of marvel movies target demographic is young men. We will not be blamed for the sins of the Semitic Hollywood perverts, nor will we apologize for being white. It’s ok to be white, it’s ok to be a man, and it’s ok to dislike this movie.

  8. Kevin • March 1, 2019 @ 9:26 AM

Yeah genius, it says in the article they had to remove the comments. It’s okay to be white and a man, but it’s not okay to voice your dislike of a movie that you haven’t seen, that’s just ignorant, especially in a place where people come to read what other people WHO HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE thought of it. Don’t be such a dumbass.

Why must the racist white supremacist men continue to oppress strong intependant women? It’s not like there’s a plot to destroy the family through college debt, feminism, and moral degeneracy being pushed by a cabal of bankers, Hollywood elites, and media heads! Oy Gevalt!

  10. J • March 1, 2019 @ 2:29 PM

Re: David Goldstein – Why are you targeting white supremacist men? Online personas could be backed by men (of any colour or sexual preference) or women (also of any colour or sexual preference)

  11. J • March 1, 2019 @ 2:31 PM

Hey Goldstein – Why are you targeting white supremacist men? Online personas could be backed by any color or sexual persuasion.

  12. David Goldstein • March 1, 2019 @ 5:10 PM

Re: J- Throughout history white men have committed every atrocity known to man; From building and inventing everything we know today on the backs of people of color, to promoting oppressive family values, to killing 6 billion Jews in the holocaust. White men stand in the way of the human rights agenda of pro-trans, pro-gay, pro-nambla, pro-women agendas throughout the world! We must work to ensure white men can no longer oppress Jews, women, and people of color!

  13. Preston • March 1, 2019 @ 11:51 PM

She is NOT the first female lead in a super hero movie! If you’re going to try and “troll” the “trolls” at least try to not sound like a complete imbecile. Wonder Women anyone? Electra anyone? Batwomen anyone? Were you all born under rocks and only come out at the mention of “misogynist”? Facts mean nothing to left leaning hate mongers pushing their white men are all pigs and out to rule the world agenda.

  14. K. Stone • March 2, 2019 @ 4:01 AM

Goldstein- I dont know what youve been smoking but six million Jews died in the holocaust, not six billion. Besides, Mao killed 30 million ChInese and Pol Pot killed millions of Cambodians, so white people are hardly the only people who commit genocide. Finally, I find it very interesting that you state that White men stand in the way of…pro-nambla ..agendas throughout the world. To those who dont know what NAMBLA is, its the Norrh American Man Boy Love Association. I find it much more concerning that you support pedophiles. If you support them, I must assume you are most likely a pedophile yourself. I suggest you spend more time addressing your own perverted inclinations than lecturing white men about what movies they should watch.

  15. T. Willie • March 2, 2019 @ 7:55 AM

It’s okay, Goldstein. I at least understood the sarcasm. Maybe if you had said “6 gorillion” instead of “6 billion,” J and K would have gotten it.

  16. FYman • March 2, 2019 @ 12:09 PM

Don’t care. If I don’t want to see a movie I won’t go. Isn’t free choice about having the ability to do that. Ridicule and disagreement comes along with making those choices. Suck it up people, it’s only a movie with a political agenda. FYman.

  17. thewhistler • March 2, 2019 @ 3:44 PM

LOL, when a movie with a female lead, leads to responses like ‘white men committed genocide’ then you know you are in strange times. To the poster above, it clearly said female superhero in the Marvel Comics Universe, which obviously doesn’t include wonder woman, elektra, and catwoman.

But its hardly misogynist to dislike a movie, I though Wonder Woman was idiotic, likewise Black Panther wasn’t nearly as good as people made it out to be. That doesn’t make me racist or chauvinist. And I don’t think ANYBODY liked that female ghostbusters movie. Thats ALL fair game.

But the kind of crap that has people talking about ‘hollywood perverts’ and trying to kill a movie before it even comes out, thats something altogether different. Go to the movie, if you didn’t like it, say so, just make sure you have a better reason than “well, it was all about a girl”. Personally I’ve always had doubts about guys who only watch male sports with guys in tights, and superhero movies about buff guys in tights. If you ONLY want to look at that, well, more power to you, there’s nothing wrong with that, but you may want to lay off the machismo because clearly your in a sexual netherworld.

I’ll be honest and didn’t like the trailers for this. But of marvel movies, I haven’t really liked any since the first two spiderman and x men movies until that last thor movie came out. I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was idiotic. I’m certainly not going to pay money to go see this one, but Im’ not likely to take any reviews seriously that think that superhero movies are only aimed at young white males. In case people missed it, most marvel movies do far better money in asia now than they do in america.

  18. Donna Brooks • March 2, 2019 @ 6:58 PM

I wish I could reply directly to Preston & others talking about Wonder Woman. Preston said “facts mean nothing to left-leaning hate mongers…” and told you to “try to not sound like a complete imbecile, & went on to name some *DC* movies w/ female leads. He missed the FACT that this is MARVEL’S first female-led superhero movie. WW, Catwoman are def in the DC Comic/movie universe. Who’s the complete imbecile now? Preston. Facts mean nothing to some people, like Preston. He just is an angry white man who is feeling threatened. Maybe he’s too stupid or too lazy to actually read what you said, but I think he is just blinded by hate & rage. White men have had privilege for so long that now when they are beginning to be treated like everyone else has been for centuries, it FEELS like oppression to them. That’s why this movie is getting so much hate.

George Samuelson 2/28/2019 5:43:43 PM wrote: ” the Semitic Hollywood perverts, nor will we apologize for being white. It’s ok to be white, it’s ok to be a man, and it’s ok to dislike this movie.” This is clearly anti-Jewish hate speech & should be removed.

And listen, Georgie BOY, you’re no man. Real men aren’t so threatened by women superheroes that they go around disliking a movie that they haven’t even seen. You dislike it b/c you’re a hateful misogynist who WANTS the movie to fail.
Lots of young, white MEN are excited about this movie. You can see their reactions on YT. If you want to be a whiny brat & throw your poo around like a monkey, you have NOTHING to be proud of…. nothing.

When the established review systems, like Rotten Tomatoes, who are perfectly fine in taking early comments about movies like “Gosnell” and “Atlas Shrugged”, even though the hate flows in those “reviews”, has to shut of comments for “Cap’n Marvel”, you know there is a problem. The problem is not the “trolls”, it’s the movie, and the publicity crawl done by the star.

  21. nanci • March 4, 2019 @ 12:13 PM

so sad that these boys can’t watch a woman without her being in skin-tight leather with a slit to her navel, tottering around on 4 inch heels waving a pistol like black widow.

  22. Marwan al-Shehhi • March 4, 2019 @ 6:20 PM

The author of this article mistakes genuine criticism with “trolling”. People are allowed to pre-judge movies based movies on their trailers, just as review sites like Rotten Tomatoes are allowed to falsify reviews for movies they don’t approve of such as Peppermint and Death Wish.

  23. Alexandra • March 4, 2019 @ 10:35 PM

Wow internet trolls ruining a good thing! Well this review just makes me want to watch the movie even more now! Let’s see what the internet trolls have to say afterwards!

  24. Al • March 7, 2019 @ 10:40 AM

Personally, I won’t be paying to see this movie. The special effects in the trailer definitely look like 90’s CGI. The only good thing in the movie is Samuel Jackson and the cat. Everything else is typical of origin movies. Finally, I am very disappointed in Brie’s sexist and racist SJW “banter.” If it weren’t for “White” guys Brie, you would be wearing a very different outfit from your Capt. Marvel character, and being an actress would not be an option for you. In fact, Brie Larson would be Captain Burqa!
