Steve Carrell leaves Office weeping

Normally, many of us rely on Steve Carrell for his wit and humor, but as Thursday marked the departure of his character Michael Scott, the episode was anything but funny. After announcing last year he would be leaving the hit show The Office permanently, an outpouring of sadness was expressed both by audiences and his costars. Carrell told TV host Ellen DeGeneres in an interview that airs today about his emotional exit. “I had been preparing myself because I had known for about a year that I was going to be leaving this season, and I thought I was emotionally prepared. But I was really surprised at how bittersweet it was. Everybody was crying.” Since leaving The Office though, Carrell has discovered something else he’s good at: being lazy. “I’m so great at not having anything to do. I think that I am an intrinsically, extremely lazy person. An entire day will go by, I will have done nothing but drive my kids to school, pick them up, have a cup of coffee, read the paper and go to bed. And that’s it. I have nothing to show for a day.” The hour-long episode averaged about 8.3 million viewers. ~Natasha Tsakiris

This show has run it’s course, it’s time for it to end anyway.

I was a die hard fan of the UK version as well as the US. For the first 4 and half seasons The Office was IT for me but somehow it lost its way during the middle of the 5th season and I don’t think it ever really got its groove back. I don’t know what happened. I saw his final episode and it was quite good…its getting better if that’s any consolation to any us fans. I don’t know how the show will fare without him. Not good is my feeling. But still, for those 4 seasons of such great material the writers gave us, I will never not be a fan.

PS: am I the only one who thought Carrell should’ve won at least one, if not all, of the awards that have pitted him against Baldwin. I think Baldwin is great and 30 Rock is another awesome show but what Carrell does on The Office is just…brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant.

I liked the UK version better. This one has its moments, but Americans never know when to stop a good thing before it goes bad. The British stop way before that, actually I would’ve liked to see a few more episodes of the British The Office before they ended their run.

Just watched Little Miss Sunshine over the weekend, and was reminded how fine of a dramatic and comedic actor Carrell can be. Let’s hope this free time can notch him some big dramatic roles. Or he can just star in a comedy where he says “That’s what she said” over and over again. I’d be fine with either.
