Carrie Underwood cast in surfing movie

Grammy-winning singer Carrie Underwood has been cast in her first acting role, in the movie Soul Surfer. The film tells the true story of champion surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm during a shark attack when she was 13 years old. Despite the odds, Hamilton continued to surf and went on to win multiple professional surfing competitions. Underwood is set to play the character Sarah Hill, a church youth leader, alongside Academy Award winner Helen Hunt as Bethany’s mother and Dennis Quaid as Bethany’s father. Bridge to Terabithia‘s AnnaSophia Robb, 16, has landed the leading role as Bethany Hamilton. ~Hilary Caton
