Cate Blanchett to reprise role in Hobbit

Cate Blanchett is returning as Galadriel in Peter Jackson‘s upcoming movie The Hobbit, which begins filming in February. She’s the first major star from the Lord of the Rings movies to be confirmed for the film, although Ian McKellen is expected to return as Gandalf and Andy Serkis will likely play Gollum. Jed Brophy, who played various roles in the original movies, will play the dwarf Nori. Other actors who’ve been cast include Ken Stott as Lord Balin, Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt as shape-shifter Beorn. Jackson said, “Cate is one of my favorite actors to work with and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her reprise the role she so beautifully brought to life in the earlier films.” The Hobbit: Part 1 is expected to hit the big screen in December 2012.
