Can you believe it? It’s already August. Wrap up your final month of summer with some new binge-worthy content from Netflix. The streaming service’s August slate is full of original movies and shows, as well as some hit films from franchises such as Jurassic Park and James Bond.

Originals
We all know the pressure of trying to get into your dream school, but how far would you go to impress admissions? In the new original movie Work It, premiering August 7, Quinn Ackerman (Sabrina Carpenter) tries to pad her resumé to get into the college of her dreams. But when she doesn’t make the dance team, she forms a ragtag group of dancers to take on the best squad in school. There’s only one problem: she doesn’t know how to dance.

Project Power (August 14) also premieres this month, with star power from Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jamie Foxx. This original Netflix film asks the question: what would you risk for five minutes of superpowers? When a pill that does just that hits the streets of New Orleans, a teenage dealer and a local cop must team with an ex-soldier to take down the group responsible for its creation.

Rob Schneider is back on the small screen in his first Netflix comedy special premiering on August 11. Rob Schneider: Asian Momma, Mexican Kids gives viewers a look at his family and personal life through hilarious anecdotes. Schneider’s daughter, singer-songwriter Elle King, also makes an appearance, giving a surprise duet performance to end off the show.

The popular show I Am a Killer gets its own spin-off on August 28 with I AM A KILLER: Released. The three-part follow up tells the story of Dale Wayne Sigler, a convict paroled 30 years after being sentenced to death for murder. As Sigler adjusts to the outside world, he also reveals his true motive for committing the brutal crime.

Another fan-favorite show premieres this month with Lucifer coming back for season 5 on August 21. This season we see Lucifer, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resign his throne and abandon his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD… and the savvy detective Chloe Decker.

And if you’re looking for laughs, check out The Sleepover (August 21). Starring Joe Manganiello and Malin Akerman, this comedy follows two siblings who discover their mom is a former thief in witness protection. They must team up to rescue her after she is kidnapped and forced to pull one last job.

International Originals
There are also so many international originals debuting this month. If you love Nailed It, check out ¡Nailed It! México. The fun, fondant and hilarious cake fails are back for the series’ second season.

Another great competition show is Sing On! Germany. In this karaoke competition, hosted by Palina Rojinski, contestants have the chance to win up to 30,000 Euros… but only if they can hit the right note.

If reality shows aren’t your thing, try La venganza de Analía (August 26). This drama series from Colombia follows a woman who decides to take revenge against her mother’s murderer, a prominent corrupt politician who’s running for president of Colombia.

Also premiering that same day is the Korean drama Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol (August 26). Lovely pianist Gurara hits rock bottom when she meets the rough and mysterious Fritta Sunwoojun. Can Fritta bring Gurara back to life?

Fan Favorite Franchises
While the release dates of many popular film franchises are currently up in the air due to the global pandemic, you can soon enjoy some classic fan favorite movies while you wait. The first three Jurassic Park films: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III and The Lost World: Jurassic Park will all be available to stream on August 1.

If you’re looking for your Bond fix, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace will also drop on August 31.

Cult Classics
Enjoy a night in with two cult classic films: Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, both available on August 1.

Comedies
There are so many different genres to choose from, but if you’re looking for some quality laughs, make sure to watch Mr. Deeds (August 1) and Johnny English (August 16). ~Brie Davis
