Cheryl Ladd talks to us about new Santa Paws 2 DVD

Cheryl Ladd, who was catapulted to stardom when she was cast as Kris Munroe on the hit TV series Charlie’s Angels when Farrah Fawcett dropped out, stars as Mrs. Claus in Disney’s new DVD/Blu-ray Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups. In the role, she sings and dances and we talked to her about this new movie and her singing origins. To enter to win a copy of this new DVD, check out the contest on our Facebook page!

This is a really fun movie and you had a variety of co-stars including kids, animals, animatronic characters, elves — which were the most fun to work with?
All of them! I am a puppy lover but I must say working with Kaitlyn particularly, all the kids including Josh were great but there’s something just magical about that little girl and she sings like an angel and she was just a little angel on the set every day, just uplifted everyone.

She’s adorable, I remember seeing her on America’s Got Talent when she was four years old. Was this her first starring role?
No, I think she was in the first one, The Search for Santa Paws, as well.

There were so many different kinds of dogs, did they all have one trainer or were there several on set?
Each dog had its own trainer. Each puppy had its own trainer. Weren’t they amazing? They were just a few months old.

They were amazing and incredibly adorable. Since this takes place during Christmas time and partially in the North Pole, was this filmed in a northern climate?
Yes, it was filmed in Fernie, British Columbia and in Vancouver. The town in the movie was Fernie.

There’s a scene where you get pelted with snow, was that real snow?
Sometimes we did have snow — we filmed it last October and it was cold enough for snow, but sometimes we had to use movie snow.

What do they make that from?
Sometimes when they just want light snow they make bubbles that look like snowflakes and when it’s really cold they can throw water up into the air and it freezes and makes real snow.

You sing in this movie — you have a beautiful singing voice. Not many people know this, but you started out as a singer.
I did. I had albums and I did Broadway.

You’ve done so much—Broadway, TV, films, is there anything that you haven’t done that you would like to do?
Maybe the right comedy series. That would be fun.

That would be great. You look gorgeous in this film by the way — do you still have fans come up to you that recognize you from Charlie’s Angels?
Oh, yes. (laughs) Constantly. Which is I guess kind of a good thing.

Do you like it when you get recognized?
Absolutely. I still get tons of fan mail. Charlie’s Angels is amazingly enduring. They just brought out the five DVD set and there’s a lot of attention on it right now.

In the movie, the pups can grant Christmas wishes. If you could have a Christmas wish, what would it be?
Peace on Earth, good will to men.

What’s next for you?
I just got back from South Africa, where I just finished a feature film called The Perfect Wave. I play Scott Eastwood’s mother.

Santa Paws 2 is such a great movie, it’s really heartwarming and fun.
Thank you! I can’t wait to show it to my grandchildren. Everyone should get it. Anybody that loves puppies or dogs is going to love the movie but also in this holiday season, it is, you know, we’re in a world right now where there’s a lot of worry and what just happened on the East Coast, people are down and this movie can just lift you right up. It just makes you feel good from beginning to end.

It does and I think a lot of kids are going to have this as their new favorite Christmas movie.
I think so. I agree.

One last thing, is there anything you’d like to say to our readers?
Have wonderful holidays, and make this movie part of it. You won’t regret it.
