colin_farrellHBO has confirmed that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in the second season of the critically acclaimed crime drama True Detective. The first season, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, won five Primetime Emmys. Just as with season one, the second season will consist of eight episodes in total. According to a press release from HBO, the story will revolve around “three police officers and a career criminal” who “must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.” Colin Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him,” while Vince Vaughn will play career criminal Frank Semyon, who’s “in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

Other cast members have yet to be announced, but Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is on board for the first two episodes, which will begin shooting in California later this fall. Read our review of Season One by clicking here. ~Alexandra Heilbron
