Colin Firth immortalized with giant statue

A large fiberglass statue modeled after Colin Firth‘s portrayal of Pride and Prejudice‘s Mr. Darcy was installed this week in Serpentine Lake in London’s Hyde Park. The 12-foot tall statue of the 52-year-old Oscar-winning actor is based on a famous scene from the 1995 Jane Austen BBC-TV adaptation, in which Mr. Darcy goes for an impromptu swim at his estate and then emerges from the water. The seductive scene was voted the most memorable moment in a British TV drama by U.K. television viewers. The purpose of the statue is to promote Drama, a new British television channel. The statue will be on display in various locations before its final (and permanent) stop at Lyme Park, Cheshire, the site where the scene was filmed. ~Alfonso Espina
