Company claims Katy Perry isn’t popular enough

Katy Perry may be a chart-topper and a record-breaker, having been the first female singer to have five number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, tying Michael Jackson’s record – but apparently that’s not popular enough for British hair company, ghd. The Jemella Group, which owns ghd, filed a suit against the Teenage Dream songstress in an attempt to block her from striking first – Perry, who has been repping the brand since 2011, claims that ghb still owes her $2 million dollars from an oral agreement to extend her contract. The company is stating that no such agreement was made and they are dropping her because she doesn’t have the kind of star-power she used to in the UK. Perry’s team is fighting back, stating to TMZ, “Jemella’s attempt to embarrass Ms. Perry by including defamatory statements about her in a public filing is shameful. They’re backing out of the deal because of an ownership change, and just throwing shade to hide their bad faith.” ~Lisa Perri

Should they have chosen Adele? Since oh, you know, she’s British and all…
