Cowell predicts a guy will win American Idol

Simon CowellAlthough two guys faced off for the American Idol title last year (David Cook and David Archuletta, with Cook winning), Simon Cowell says that doesn’t mean it’s a girl’s turn to win this season. “[It will be a] boy this year,” Cowell told People, and fellow judge Randy Jackson agreed, saying, “I think it’s a dude, too.” Each week, the top guy and girl are chosen, plus the singer with the next highest votes, whether male or female. With the girls putting in less-than-stellar performances, four guys have made it through so far — Danny Gokey, Michael Sarver, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, compared to only two girls — Alexis Grace and Allison Iraheta. The singers who didn’t make it through — but who should have a second chance for the wild card show — are mostly guys, like Anoop Desai, Brent Keith and Ricky Braddy. Tatiana Del Toro, though known mainly for her hysterics, is the only girl singer who has shown she has the talent to go far in the competition. What do you think? Is a guy or a girl going to be crowned this year’s American Idol?

How many times are they going to show a picture of this dufus? Change that ’80s doo..

  2. whatever • February 27, 2009 @ 10:59 AM

where’s the option for who cares? bet that would get the most votes.

  3. Monique • February 27, 2009 @ 12:35 PM

    American Idol is so yesterday.
    Yawn.

  4. Kenny • February 27, 2009 @ 1:34 PM

I can’t believe that some people are so ignorant. When talking about Simon(behind his back!)you don’t know what your talking about! I don’t know him personally, but I’ll bet you he is one of the most down to earth, nicest people you would ever want to meet.Just by watching and reading things about him, I can tell he is a GREAT person. So, B-4 making making stupid comments about his hair, and Idol, stop and think,or, just shut the @#@# up!! P.S Simon, if U ever get to hear about my comments, please send me a little cash–Just a joke, that I know U can take. Kenny M. Montreal, Canada. Thanks.

Is Tatiana still on there? I missed it last week, cannot stand that girl, and would love to see them give her the boot. There is a 16 year old girl on there who I think is fantastic, can’t think of her name, but yeah, I also think the guys are much better overall than the girls this year.

  6. whatever • February 27, 2009 @ 4:04 PM

whoa kenny…talk about putting yourself out there…

  7. Jim • February 27, 2009 @ 4:16 PM

The 16 year old is Alison and she is amazing. Tatiana got the boot, thank goodness. She is annoying and I swear she is bipolar or something.
There are 6 so far in the final 12. They are Alexis (cute blonde girl with pink in her hair) Danny (guy whose wife passed away; he has glasses), and the oil rigger (I can’t remember his name.) From last night’s show the 3 were Chris who sang Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror, Alison who is the 16 year old with bright red hair and Adam who sang Rolling Stones and in my opinion did a very good Mick Jagger.
Yes I am rather obsessed with the show. This is what happens when your wife makes you watch it and you become more addicted than her.

  8. Nancy • February 27, 2009 @ 5:53 PM

Could be worse Jim…you could be hooked on ‘Young and the Useless’, LOL! I’ve been thinking (since he first auditioned) that Danny would win this season. I also have to add that I absolutely agree with Kenny above. ▲ ▲ ▲ Simon is the best judge on AI.

  9. tributegirl • February 27, 2009 @ 7:56 PM

Agreed about Simon, Nancy, but I think kenny’s comment is just a little over the top. Jim, I wish I had seen Tatiana get the boot, I really could not stand her, and would have loved to see her reaction. Also, thanks for the names, I find at this point in the show there are only a few names that I remember, but their faces & voices I remember quite well. I think either Alison, Danny or Adam are going to win this year.
And don’t worry about being obsessed with the show, there are millions right along side you!

  10. Fraydeecat • February 27, 2009 @ 7:57 PM

JMHO………. I think Simon might actually have a hatey on for female contestants.

  11. Jim • February 27, 2009 @ 8:20 PM

I agree that Danny or Alison will, and should win but I don’t think Adam will..not that I don’t think he is good enough. I agree with Simon when he says that people will either love him or hate him, whereas I think both Alison and Danny have a “likeable” quality about them. I really enjoy watching all three of them personally, but I think America won’t take to Adam as well. I think he is brilliant though and I do hope I am wrong. Danny just has a raw talent as does Alison and I think it is amazing that she is 16 and pulled off a heart song. And those heels?? I don’t think I have seen grown women perform, or walk for that matter quite so well in heels.
FYI I realize I sound like a woman talking about soap operas but I promise I DO NOT watch Young and The Useless. American Idol is my only guilty pleasure!! LOL

  12. Jim • February 27, 2009 @ 8:23 PM

Oh and you would not have believed it tributegirl. Tatiana was all calm and collected through the whole show. So not like her during Hollywood week. She said that she spoke to her friends back home and they said she never acted like that and that Hollywood week was not her “real” self. It was a little bipolar of her to be honest. She was completely calm and was upset and crying but not what I expected of such a drama queen. AHHH she was so annoying!!

  13. Juliana • February 27, 2009 @ 9:49 PM

Of those (demigod, whatever, and Monique) running down American Idol and Simon Cowell (best judge by a long shot!!), I’m wondering why they’re watching the show. Monique says American Idol is so yesterday, but get this: SHE WATCHES IT!! I love the show and I love Simon. Paula’s been a lot better this year and I wonder if it’s because she has female ‘competition’ with the new judge.

  14. lily • February 27, 2009 @ 9:54 PM

Jim, I think your wife is a very lucky lady. You sound like such a nice guy!!!
Completely agree about all your ratings, but me and my hubby are kind of leaning toward Adam:)

  15. Jim • February 27, 2009 @ 11:33 PM

Thanks for the compliment lily, but all I can say is that I have a wife and two daughters. That should be enough to explain my feminine side. I love American Idol and I agree that Adam is so talented. He did amazingly well this week and should go very far. I just hope that America feels the same way!

  16. amber • February 28, 2009 @ 12:17 AM

Haha, I used to be obsessed with Young and the Restless BEFORE I was obsessed with Passions. Oh, and did I mention I’m under 20? Too bad I don’t have time to watch TV daily.. now I watch Ghost Whisperer every Friday nights. Oh gosh, I sound like an old, isolated person.. I swear I’m not! However, I have been told that I am an old soul..

I watch American Idol once in a blue moon. I like Alexis – I like her hair and her singing’s good too.

  17. amber • February 28, 2009 @ 12:19 AM

Oh no, I meant to say I like ALLISON with her red hair. I LOVE the song “Alone” by Heart so hearing her sing that made me happy.

  18. tributegirl • February 28, 2009 @ 12:04 PM

Jim, it’s not a feminine show! My daughter and I watch it, as does my husband and two sons!
Anyway, I’m glad Tatiana is gone, she was the most annoying one I’ve ever seen on there. Also glad Nick/Norman is gone, it wasn’t the right forum for him, but I’ll bet he gets offered spots on some sort of comedy! Adam reminds me of David Cooke from last year, some people just didn’t take to him, but I thought he was definitely the best and was really pleased to see him win. But Alison just amazes me, I think partly because of her age.

  19. mandee • February 28, 2009 @ 2:30 PM

hmm, i only caught one episode, who was the guy (he looked like a kid) with the black hair and black nail polish and seemed kind of like he was emo, and i think it was simon said he had some brilliant parts in his singing and some terrible parts so he was conflicted with what to say?

  20. Kaiya • February 28, 2009 @ 3:01 PM

At first I thought Tatiana was annoying too, but she has talent, and she was so subdued after Hollywood week that it seemed to me she must have finally had a chance to see how she appeared during those early episodes and was embarrassed by it. She even said something to that effect to Ryan. She seems to really want this badly, and there are really no girls who can sing this year, of all of them she’s the only one who actually has a good voice. So I hope she gets a second chance. She’s young, she’s emotional and she was desperate to get through, so if people can get over what she was like during Hollywood week, she really has talent and from the way she was during the first “audience” show, I think she’s learned a lot.

  21. lily • February 28, 2009 @ 9:29 PM

I totally agree with Tributegirl about Adam being kind of like David Cooke, who I also LOVE!!! I see lots of people like to trash American Idol but I really look forward to it every season. And, I have to admit, I always look forward to Simon’s comments the most! Yes, he can be unnecessarily cruel, but he also tells people straight out what he thinks.

  22. mandee • March 1, 2009 @ 11:10 PM

well, hey thanks for clearing up who he is for me…wait a minute…no one did ! thats nice 🙂

  23. lily • March 2, 2009 @ 7:40 AM

I’ve missed a few this season so I’m not sure who the emo kid is… sorry Mandee.

  24. Jim • March 2, 2009 @ 8:48 AM

    mandee,
I think you are referring to Nathanial. I kind of know what emo means but my kids are not here to clarify for me. LOL. Anyway, Nathanial is very young, wears black nail polish and usually wears a head band. He is somewhat of a drama queen. I was actually shocked that he got through and I believe he is part of the group that sings this week.

  25. tributegirl • March 2, 2009 @ 11:06 AM

And he is almost as annoying as Tatiana! Not quite, but close! He cries all the time, I wonder if he is always like that, or if it’s because of the high-stress he would be feeling now? I mean, every one of them would be feeling the stress, but he just cant seem to control himself.
lily, I agree about Simon, actually I think he makes the show, it would be pretty boring without his snappy remarks.

  26. Jo-Anne. • March 2, 2009 @ 3:13 PM

I think Simon IS the show, in reference to judges. Paula – not only painful to watch her repeated attempts at articulation, she’s a fence sitter, which shouldn’t happen in the judge’s seat. Kara is – hey look at me, I have so much to offer, annoying person and Randy is okay, but his “u da bomb, da dawg” routine repetitive…Simon does what he’s there to do, doesn’t candy coat his response, obviously hits a nerve with many, but he does know his stuff.

I haven’t seen anyone yet to match Cook, but there’s still time…hopefully they’ll come close, makes it so much more entertaining to see talented performers…

do believe it will be a male as well this year…

  27. tributegirl • March 2, 2009 @ 6:41 PM

Agreed on the judges, however I think that Randy still says what he thinks, just not as meanly as Simon. I don’t mind his “dawg”, etc, comments, really. Paula, I like her, but yeah, she is a fence sitter, she’s just too “nice”, it’s like if she does not like a performance, she’s too afraid of hurting the persons feelings, so she sugar coats everything. Kara, man, I hope they don’t invite her back next season, I can’t stand her, she really thinks she’s something.

  28. Jo-Anne. • March 2, 2009 @ 8:30 PM

totally agree on Paula, she is way too nice for this “job”, she needs to just say “You’re not going to make it, give it up” instead of all that on and on and on (yes, she does ramble)…

Kara, again agreed, I cannot warm up to her at all.

I don’t find Simon mean though, just brutally honest and I think in that job you have to be…

  29. tributegirl • March 3, 2009 @ 4:06 PM

Agreed, sometimes I find Simon is a little too mean, but then again, he is what makes the show, so if he wasn’t like that, I don’t know if Idol would have lasted as long as it has.

  30. Nancy • March 3, 2009 @ 5:45 PM

Love Simon! He’s so brutally honest…he cracks me up!

  31. Nancy • March 3, 2009 @ 5:46 PM

Can’t stand the two little tramps. Randy is ok.

  32. tributegirl • March 4, 2009 @ 4:40 PM

haha, couldn’t have said it better myself!

So, did anyone watch it last night? OmG, I think it’s such a shame that some of that talent will be going home! Every single one of them last night was better than any of them from last week! The first few were really good, but not great, but then, wow! I thought they were amazing! Nathaniel’s performance was a little different. I didn’t like it at all, until I took my eyes off the screen. Just listening to him, he was amazing, but his style and his movements are way too distracting, took away from his talent.

And, ummm, I don’t know how to say this “delicately”, so I’ll just say it. Paula, she just seemed almost half out of it last night. I don’t mean like illegal drugs….ok, my friend asked if she was on anti-depressants, and I have to say, I kind of thought she seemed like she might be. Now I know that is a pretty rude thing to say, and I know most people who are on them are on them for a good reason, and I’m not trying to be mean or anything, but I’m just wondering, did anybody else notice this?

And Kara! UG! That shopping comment was so lame! Pretty much all she says is “we want to see the real you, and that just didn’t show who you are”. She said basically that to most of them, got quite annoying! I don’t think she knows what else to say, and she tries to sound smart, but fails badly!

  33. Nancy • March 4, 2009 @ 6:50 PM

Ahhh…Paula was probably half in the bag! I love it when she says stupid things and the camera moves over to Simon who is rolling his eyes and kinda looking at her out of the corner of his eye like she’s totally nuts! Nathaniel….I don’t like him AT ALL. Like I said before, I have no problem with someone who is gay but, I don’t like it when gay girls sound like guys and gay guys try to sound like girls. He cries like a drama b!tch constantly and that nasty headband thingy…EWWWW!

  34. Nancy • March 5, 2009 @ 11:20 AM

First of all, I’ll start with the bad news (for me anyways). WHY WHY WHY WHY did they have to bring Tatiana back for tonight??????????????????????????????????????? That God-awful bawling and “thank you boo hoo boo hoo thank you so much” RRRRRRRRRRRrrrrr!!!

Ok, on to the good news (for me)…YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Nathaniel and Kristen…gone….for good…I hope so!!!! (Can’t f-ing stand either one of them)!!!

  35. tributegirl • March 5, 2009 @ 12:26 PM

I didn’t mind Kristen that much, but Nathaniel, man, I just can’t stand seeing them snot & bawl like that all the time! So good riddance!
And Tatiana, I just KNEW they were going to bring her back! She’s got talent, but there were several much more talented people who were not picked, so that just doesn’t make sense. I think it was the drama factor she brought to the show. And all her crying & crap, “oh, thank you so much” many times over, and her “I’ve worked so hard”, well, who didn’t! I remember her crying and saying “you don’t know what I’ve been through”! Please! A lot of them have been through rough times, that’s not what the show is about!

  36. tributegirl • March 11, 2009 @ 11:13 AM

I don’t know, after last night, I think Lil Rounds has an excellent chance of winning this.
