Daniel Radcliffe is four years sober

Daniel Radcliffe, 24, is now four years sober after battling an addiction to alcohol in his twenties. The drinking problem started while he was filming Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the sixth film in the franchise. It seems the pressure of success and what he would be seen as after the Harry Potter series ended were too much for the 20-year-old actor. Daniel told Sky Arts: “It is a pressure of living with the thought, ‘Oh, what if all these people are saying I am not going to have a career? What if they are all going to be right and will be laughing and I will be consigned to a bunch of ‘Where are they now?’ lists?'” Among other things, a quieter life and his relationship with his girlfriend led the star to admit he had a problem, and he stopped drinking in August 2010.

Daniel is now focused on his career with upcoming movies such as Frankenstein due out in 2015. He’s also active in the theater — notably his production of The Cripple of Inishmaan was nominated for six awards at this year’s Tony Awards. Daniel can add sobriety to his list of numerous accomplishments. We wish the actor continued success and look forward to following his career. ~Andrea Hodgins
