David Archuleta’s dad charged with hiring a hooker

By Alexandra Heilbron on June 18, 2009 | 31 Comments

Jeff and David ArchuletaAmerican Idol 2008 runner up David Archuleta’s dad Jeff has pleaded no contest to the charge of soliciting a prostitute and paid a $582 fine. He will also be required to attend a counselling class. The elder Archuleta, a Mormon, was caught in a raid at the Queens of Reki in Utah in January, according to Us magazine. Police Sgt. John Salazar said, “Two of our detectives went back to that room to stop the activity. Inside they found a female masseuse and male client. At that time an interview ensued and the male client admitted to receiving sexual gratification from the masseuse.” Court documents identified the man as 47-year-old Jeff Archuleta, who became well known for his stage dad antics during his squeaky clean son’s stint on American Idol and was eventually banned from backstage rehearsals.

um wow wouldn’t it be cheaper(and legal) to just use the pick up line “hey my son was the runner up on AI”? I mean if he did that he would be exploiting his kid but he was doing that anyway so way not exploit and get laid doing it?

  2. Stephen • June 18, 2009 @ 2:51 PM

Doesn’t one just “rent” a hooker instead of “hiring” them for a short-term assignment?

And, Jo, maybe the hooker won’t settle for a second-place father and so he had to sweeten the pot.

  3. demigod • June 18, 2009 @ 8:36 PM

Attend a counselling class?? Wow, that is powerful stupid.

  4. mandee • June 19, 2009 @ 12:09 AM

i cant really say that i find sex for money that big of a problem. if youre willing to pay for it, and someone is willing to take your money to have sex with you…what exactly is the problem? i get that its illegal, but i dont really see WHY. its your body and your money, how can anyone tell you how you can or cannot use it? thatd be like me owning a vehicle, but not being allowed to sit in it. (well, in my mind lol). its MINE so why is it anyones business what i DO with it?

  5. Nancy • June 19, 2009 @ 9:41 AM

Well, they are permitted to give it away, they just can’t sell it. Just like it is not illegal to take drugs but it is illegal to sell it. It’s not illegal to kill and eat moose or deer, etc. but it is illegal to sell it.

  6. Nancy • June 19, 2009 @ 9:43 AM

Why? Probably because the government hasn’t figured out a way, without causing complete chaos, to tax it and get their cut!! 😀

  7. Monique • June 19, 2009 @ 12:49 PM

Maybe the governments need to talk to the Dutch government LOL They do really well with legalizing prostitution and drugs.

I just think it’s funny when someone who acts so prim and proper is caught in the act doing something “dirty” lol
Is he single or married? Anyone know?

  8. Moviefan • June 19, 2009 @ 1:56 PM

He’s married, the whole Archuleta family (including his wife and a bunch of kids) was passed off as being devout Mormons on AI.

  9. mandee • June 19, 2009 @ 4:21 PM

    lol@all of you

  10. tributegirl • June 19, 2009 @ 5:56 PM

demigod, a truer statement has never been said! 😉

  11. Jo-Anne • June 19, 2009 @ 7:32 PM

actually Monique, the Dutch government is far from “doing really well” with legalized prostitution and brothels….one of the largest areas in the world for human trafficking and gang criminal activity associated with such places…I read they are attempting to close down at least half of these brothels and “pare down” the district…

what may have seemed like a good thing at one time appears to have gotten way out of hand…

  12. demigod • June 19, 2009 @ 9:54 PM

Honestly tg. What year are we living in? Sending people to counselling for wanting sex? What a sexually repressed society we’re living in. Moreso in Utah.

  13. jo • June 19, 2009 @ 10:04 PM

their should be some legal prostitution but I’m not sure I like the fact that a 18 year old kid could get AIDS or a STD from some prostitute thats high and doesn’t tell the kid they got a STD I think that society has yet to catch up with the sexual needs of people

    just my opinion

  14. demigod • June 19, 2009 @ 10:07 PM

Jo, don’t know what the situation is in the Netherlands, but decriminalizing prostitution (or drugs for that matter) suppose to remove the criminal element, and put a stop to throwing innocent people in jail (drug users, johns).
I’ve heard Amsterdam has the lowest crime rate of all major cities..the Netherlands is second only to Sweden.

  15. jo • June 19, 2009 @ 11:05 PM

I don’t know I don’t give a f**k what some grown woman or man does but I hate hearing about 10-16 year old hookers but I guess I’m probably not really informed right but its just my opinion sometimes its stupid 🙂

  16. mandee • June 20, 2009 @ 1:13 AM

jo, dont EVER think your opinion or your way of thinking is stupid. thats a terrible thing to say or think or feel. its your opinion, you should be ready to fight to the death when its something you feel strongly about. look at me, nancy, anon and joanne. lol. we all feel very strongly about the things we think and say, and we prove it, especially when we are willing to fight it out online.

  17. jo • June 20, 2009 @ 1:42 AM

Thanks Mandee but I was only joking!

I don’t really have a problem with legalizing prostitution but I do have a problem with people selling their bodies for hard drugs like crack(I don’t see the harm in pot) or to help pay medical bills or s**t like that I really don’t care if someone wants to do it and get paid but I have a problem with people who are hooking as a last resort because they will probably hate themselves for it but the biggest problem I have with prostitution is children hooking I mean that s**t is disgusting

  18. mandee • June 20, 2009 @ 2:48 AM

i agree completely. and good, im glad you werent being serious ! its so hard to read tones online grr. its a sad world we live in when children have no other options than offering sex for money. once youre an adult it should be entirely up to you.

  19. tributegirl • June 20, 2009 @ 9:04 AM

demigod, I meant YOUR statement, “Attend a counselling class?? Wow, that is powerful stupid.” I agree, a counselling class for someone who hired a hooker IS powerful stupid!

  20. demigod • June 20, 2009 @ 10:38 AM

Tg, I know you were agreeing!lol You misunderstood. I was just reiterating 🙂

  21. Nancy • June 20, 2009 @ 10:51 AM

This “counselling” thing is because of all those damn goody-goodies out there (Anon/Gina LOL) who think that people learn nothing from doing jail time…they should be given counselling and the chance to change. “CROCK!!” I say!

  22. demigod • June 20, 2009 @ 11:00 AM

    Nancy on June 20, 2009 10:51 AM

Gee Nance, I would think that would be you 🙂
But this is coming from the sexist pig who thinks we’re living in a feminized society 😉

  23. Nancy • June 20, 2009 @ 11:23 AM

Jeepers, you really don’t read most of my comments, do you? Anon/Gina and I have had a few discussions now about jail time vs counselling…and I have NEVER been on the counselling side of the discussion, LOL. I don’t believe that when people are given a “choice” as to whether they want to change or not that they will choose yes to change. Most criminals only show up for counselling so as to get a lesser jail sentence. Hence the old saying “If you can’t do the time…don’t do the crime!”

  24. Jo-Anne • June 20, 2009 @ 11:40 AM

d.g….curious. You say you don’t know what the situation is in the Netherlands yet state Amsterdam has the lowest crime rate of all major cities…

    ?????

where did you hear this…cuz I was reading something considerably different?

  25. demigod • June 20, 2009 @ 11:47 AM

    Nancy on June 20, 2009 11:23 AM

Ok, so what do we do with this guy? Lock’em up? 🙂 May I remind you he was married? 🙂

  26. Nancy • June 20, 2009 @ 12:08 PM

Actually demigod, I personally think that he obviously has too much money in his pocket that he felt he needed to use it for sex LOL, so I think he should just have to pay a fine.

  27. Nancy • June 20, 2009 @ 12:09 PM

Oh, and he may not be “married” for very long, hahaha.

  28. demigod • June 20, 2009 @ 9:06 PM

    Nancy on June 20, 2009 12:08 PM

Well I think prostitutes make too much money (no tax on income)..and they should pay the bigger fine, and attend counselling 🙂
No not really, it should be legalized.

  29. demigod • June 20, 2009 @ 9:10 PM

    Jo-Anne on June 20, 2009 11:40 AM

That’s just what I’ve heard. And the Netherlands ranks one of the highest in the ‘quality of life’ index, along with all the Nordic countries.

  30. tributegirl • June 21, 2009 @ 10:10 AM

Oh, sorry demigod, I thought you misunderstood, guess it was me that misunderstood!

If this guy is willing to pay for sex, and the woman is willing to give sex for money, I don’t see how it is anybody’s business except theirs, and their partners.

  31. Rebanie • June 28, 2009 @ 9:15 AM

I disagree with Mandee’s comment at 2009/06/20 at 1:13am when she said “jo, dont EVER think your opinion or your way of thinking is stupid”. Sometimes people’s opinions or ways of thinking are stupid. I’m not saying jo’s are stupid, but if someone thinks that of themselves, they should really consider that because not everyone’s opinions are intelligent and if they have the foresight to recognize that, it’s a step in the right direction. In opposition to mandee’s statement, I’d like to say, “Feel free to think your opinion or way of thinking is stupid. Especially when you’re very young. Your opinions (and even the synapses in your brain) are still forming and you should listen more than vent if you want to learn and perhaps even become wise one day.”
