Debuts take over weekend box office

By Tribute on September 24, 2012 | 4 Comments

The top three movies at the box office this weekend were all debuts, with two tying for the top spot. The Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña crime drama End of Watch went neck in neck with the horror flick House at the End of the Street starring Jennifer Lawrence, Elisabeth Shue and Max Thieriot. Both films raked in $13 million each but the latter was slightly more successful with Tribute.ca users, who gave it an impressive 4.4 stars out of a possible 5, while End of Watch earned 3.8 stars. Coming in third was Trouble with the Curve, another debut starring Clint Eastwood, Justin Timberlake and Amy Adams. It earned $12.7 million and 4 stars. Rounding out the top 5 were two of last week’s front-runners. The animated re-release Finding Nemo 3D, which was second last week, came in fourth this week with an additional $9.5 million and 4.3 stars. The action sequel Resident Evil: Retribution dropped way down from first to fifth bringing in $6.7 million and 3.6 stars on Tribute.ca.

How is Trouble with the Cruve in the top 5?? I heard it wasn’t even that good. And isn’t clint eastwood like 100 years old now?

Clint Eastwood is actually 82 and STILL an iconic figure in Hollywood. I’m a HUGE fan of his work – always have been and always will be!

I feel bad for Dredd. I heard it got decent reviews considering it’s got no real stand out stars. But that’s what happens when you make a flop about a flop I suppose.
Hollywood, don’t remake Stallone Movies or Arnold flicks (see Total Recall), it’s just not the same..maybe too soon>?
