Actor Jesse Metcalfe, 29, is in a wheelchair after fell from a second-story balcony in Monaco where he was hosting the World Music Awards on Sunday. He was perched on the edge of a balcony at a club when he tumbled over backwards and fell 40 feet to the ground. He was knocked unconcious and subseqently rushed to a nearby hospital. Following a brain scan, he was then flown to London for a CAT scan at a private hospital, where it was determined that he has a severely broken leg. His London-based representative, who admits that Metcalfe was in rehab last year to deal with “alcohol issues,” claims his client had only had two glasses of champagne. He told British paper The Sun: “Jesse knows he’s had a very lucky escape. The accident could have been fatal. It was a very scary experience for those of us who saw him. I have just come from the hospital and he is bearing up okay. He can barely walk and he hasn’t got much movement in his legs.” Metcalfe, who played the title role in the teen comedy John Tucker Must Die, is a regular on Desperate Housewives. He’s the second actor from the popular TV series to have a brush with death in the past month: Gale Harrold survived a motorcycle crash in October but is still in hospital undergoing treatment.
