Comedian Tracy Morgan may be facing an uphill battle after his devastating car crash in June, according to his lawyer. In a statement Tuesday night, lawyer Benedict Morelli says the jury is still out on whether the 30 Rock star will ever perform again. “The doctors don’t know the answer. I don’t know the answer,” he told reporters. The comedian is currently undergoing rehab for his speech and cognitive abilities as well as physical therapy to repair the brain damage done when a tractor-trailer belonging to Walmart hit the limo he was in, killing fellow comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair and critically injuring two other passengers. Tracy currently relies on a wheelchair or a walker to get around.
The statement was made while Morelli was speaking out against allegations from Walmart, whose lawyers claimed in court Monday the injuries were due to Tracy and his fellow passengers not wearing seatbelts. “These people are despicable,” said Morelli. “They knew that they changed these people’s lives forever and killed somebody.”
Tracy released a statement as well. “After I heard what Walmart said in court I felt I had to speak out,” he said. “I can’t believe Walmart is blaming me for an accident that they caused.”
Despite the allegations and the doubts over his ability to perform in the future, Tracy remains optimistic and thankful for his fans’ support: “I love you all. I’m fighting hard every day to get back.” ~Kelly Townsend
