The long-awaited Downton Abbey finally hit theatres and fans flocked to watch their favorite characters take over the big screen. The film ruled the box office, winning the top spot with a record-breaking $31 million — Focus Features’ biggest opening weekend ever. Opening in second spot with $19 million was Ad Astra, starring Brad Pitt as U.S. Space Command astronaut Roy McBride, who goes on a search across the solar system for his missing scientist father (Tommy Lee Jones).
Rambo: Last Blood took the third spot at the box office in its opening weekend with $18.9 million. The final chapter of the Rambo series finds John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) having to save his granddaughter from a sex trafficking cartel.
Taking fourth spot was IT: Chapter Two, which dropped three spots after reigning as box office champ for the last two weekends. The film earned another $17 million for a gross domestic total of $179.2 million. A sequel to Downton Abbey just started filming last week. The original principal cast will return for the sequel, scheduled to open in theaters on December 22, 2021.
I hope this means there will be more Downton Abby movies!
Stallone said there will only be more Rambo if this new film does well. So…
