Drake to receive Canada Walk of Fame award

It was announced yesterday that Canadian rapper Drake, 24, is slated to receive an award from Canada’s Walk of Fame. He’ll get the Allan Slaight award, which comes with a $10,000 honorarium. Drake is planning to give the money to Dixon Hall, a service that provides assistance to residents of low income neighborhoods in Toronto. The young rapper said in a written statement: “I am a proud Canadian, and I am grateful to Canada’s Walk of Fame and the Slaight Foundation for this award.” Founding Director of Canada’s Walk Of Fame Peter Soumalias said: “At 24 years of age, Drake has already achieved what has taken others a lifetime to do. He is kind, smart, talented, philanthropic and driven. He is an inspiring example to all, and we are proud to recognize him this year as our young Canadian making a positive impact.”

    What has he achieved already that some took a lifetime to do? I mean, not to take anything away from him but he hasn’t been around for long. I guess they are running out of Canadians to honor.

    Drake is a world famous musician, he has achieved commercial success, some even say he is one of the better rappers out there these days. How is that not good enough to be recognized as someone who has made an impact? Being a platinum artist takes a lifetime if not 10 lifetimes for most musicians, so yeah…you’re an idiot…

    I thought at first they gave him a star on the Walk of Fame, I’m glad that’s not it because he’s not ready for that, he’s way too young. Sounds like he’s a good guy, giving the money to charity. He was really funny on the Junos, that skit with the old people was hysterical.

    I have my own opinions and I respect other people’s opinion.

    You think calling people names on public forums makes you smarter? You’re freaking jerks if nothing else.

    My point is, Barenaked Ladies have been around for years and sold millions of album and still are not on the CWOF. Without longevity, it’s hard to put a name on there because in 10 years, people will walk on it and say, “who the hell is Drake”?

    @germain is an idiot….

    It seems you are the idiot. Drake hasn’t been mainstream for very long. He may be considered one of the best now, but that’s not saying much with very few rappers that are mainstream being very good. Please try to give me a list of who is at the top right now who isn’t underground, and you’ll see the list for GOAT or best of the best is very short. I like Drake, I think he’s talented, he seems down to earth and cool in a Nardwuar interview I’ve seen, and I hear he’s a nice guy with charities and such. In all honesty though, he’s way too young and hasn’t lived enough to be given such a high honor within our country. In 5 years if Drake let’s the fame get to him and becomes a cocaine addict, or his 15 minutes are up and he wasn’t really the GOAT, the Canadian walk of fame is going to look really stupid. I’m no hater though, so I hope he lives up to all the hype/attention he’s getting.

    I just read the newspaper and Drake is in the top 5 of the best rappers with Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye and Jay Z considering he came from acting in Degrassi I’d say he’s achieved alot in the last couple of years at least we don’t see him getting arrested for DUI’s and shooting *gats* in clubs lol he’s a great canadian celebrity

    Good for him!

    Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kanye and Jay Z is all CRAP!! I’m not rap or hip hop fan but if you want the real deal, listen to N.W.A., Public Enemy, early DMX and RUN DMC. Today’s hip hop is all about the bling and the bitches, it’s an embarrassment.

    Tammy I agree with you that Drake has achieved a lot in his short time of being on everyone’s radar.

    In his interview with Nardwuar, he talks about collecting a chest full of panties that he gets from fans on his tours. It’s hilarious, and commendable but just seems too immature.

    Eminem has been around for over a decade, his skill hasn’t faded and is considered by most as the best in terms of lyrics, even amongst the skilled rappers.

    Lil Wayne has been around for a awhile, and is very popular. In terms of best of all time? In 10 years when they make a list, I don’t think he will be in the top 10.

    Kanye, same as above. Though as a producer I think he deserves more credit.

    Jay-Z deserves any kind of lifetime achievement award, hall of fame, goat etc… IMO he’s not the best rapper, or the best lyricist. But he’s been in the game over 20 years, has many successful business’, and last I heard, was the wealthiest “rapper”
