Dumb and Dumber To wins weekend box office

DumbandDumberToIt was a close call, but the long-anticipated Dumb and Dumber To took the top spot at the box office this weekend with a debut of $38.1 million. The Dumb and Dumber sequel reunited Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey as Harry and Lloyd as they search for Harry’s long lost daughter and has a 3.4 star Tribute user rating. Big Hero 6 came in at a close second with $36m in its second week. The animated film about a young inventor who transforms his brother’s robot into an armored warrior is enjoying a 4.2 star Tribute user rating. In third place this week was the sci-fi epic Interstellar (4.1 stars) with $29.1 million.

Beyond The Lights, which had a limited release in Toronto this week, made it to fourth place with a solid $6.5 million. The film stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a pop star who develops a close bond with the police officer who saved her life. Rounding out the top five was David Fincher’s Gone Girl (3.6 stars) with an estimated $4.6 million in its seventh week in theaters. ~Kelly Townsend
