Dunkirk wins battle for top spot at weekend box office again

Dunkirk movie posterIt was another weekend of battles for first spot at the weekend box office with resident champ Dunkirk going up against newcomers The Emoji Movie and Atomic Blonde. But the expressive animated flick and the super-spy thriller were no match for the WWII drama, which won out and took top spot yet again.

Christopher Nolan’s epic drama Dunkirk continues to draw in audiences. The film about the brutal WWII battle on the beaches of Dunkirk took first spot in the box office for a second week in a row. The film took in an additional $26.6 million this weekend, bringing its current domestic gross to $102.8 million. Our users score it 3.7 out of 5 stars.

With some audiences looking for a lighter evening at the movies, The Emoji Movie fit the bill, as the animated comedy opened in theaters in second place. The film earned $24.5 million at the box office and has a rating of 2.5 stars from our users.

Dropping from second to third spot was the comedy Girls TripThe film earned $19.6 million at the domestic box office in its second weekend and grossed a total of $65.5 million. Our users are enjoying the laughs, giving the film a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars.

Spy thriller Atomic Blonde debuted at the box office in fourth. The film stars Charlize Theron as top MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton who’s sent to retrieve information about the murder of a former lover and colleague. It took in $18.3 million in sales and entertained audiences, nabbing a 3.2-star rating from our users.

Fifth spot goes to superhero flick Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film, which dropped from third to fifth in its fourth week, took in $13.3 million, making its current domestic gross $278.4 million. Our users rate the film 3 out of 5 stars.
