Dwayne Johnson fans divided over Joe Rogan Spotify support

After Dwayne Johnson wrote words of support on Joe Rogan’s Instagram account, he’s received harsh feedback from fans (see above). Johnson responded to a video the controversial host posted in which Rogan tried to explain his platform, saying, “I’m not trying to promote misinformation.”
Rogan has openly supported using Ivermectin — a medicine used most commonly to kill internal parasites — to cure people with COVID-19. Spotify, which recently picked up Rogan’s podcast, plans to put a disclaimer on episodes that deal with COVID.
One of Johnson’s fans commented, “Never been so disappointed in my life.” Another wrote: “Highly disappointed in you for supporting a man spreading medical disinformation about a pandemic.” More comments included, “How cute that you support someone who enables white supremacy in every facet of his life,” and “No bro not you!!!! Have to unfollow brother. We need better role models,” while some said he’d lost them as fans, including this one: “Wow. Unbelievably disappointed. I can’t support you if you’re going to support the spread of information that will get people killed. Sorry Rock. You lost a fan.”
Some Spotify users have deleted their accounts, including Sharon Stone, who told TMZ: “COVID and infectious diseases are science, and they are fact-based situations. So the pretence that these are opinions is dangerous, and his behavior is dangerous.”
Just 24 hours after apologizing for sharing COVID-19 misinformation on his podcast and promising to “have all the pertinent facts at hand,” Rogan tweeted a post with false information about Ivermectin, saying it was effective against Omicron in a phase III clinical trial. He quickly deleted the tweet after it became clear the article he was referring to was incorrect — Reuters had published a correction more than 10 hours before Rogan tweeted the incorrect information, according to CNN fact checker Daniel Dale.
Musicians Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen guitarist Nis Lofgren, India Arie and Neil Young’s former bandmates David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, have all pulled their music from Spotify because of Rogan’s podcast, due to the spread of “lies costing people their lives.”

I read a news article about a guy who was in the hospital for Covid and his wife gave him Ivermectin and then he died. Probably not from the Ivermectin, but it sure didn’t cure him.
Ugh…Dwayne, so sad to bid you adieu, but science is science, and racist right wing conjecture is just that. Talk to the elders about polio dude, all those non-science sponges have their polio vaccine for a reason. Vaccine is the only medicine we have right now and its preventing death, maybe not getting the big C, but not dying from it is a special kinda gift.
I am sorry that people will not listen to the experts on Covid. These anti-vaxxers are actually killing [ murdering ] innocent people because of their stupidity. Wake up ! Why would you even consider taking a chance if it meant you could infect someone else ? What if you infected a loved one ? Would infecting your own family & maybe killing them be enough to wake you up ?
Looking into alternatives to Spotify now. Listened to Joe Rogan once and that was enough. This was before COVID. But seeing Dwayne’s response just solidified my intent to cut loose. Big disappointment, Dwayne. I’m cutting you loose too! Judging from your earlier pro-vaccine statements, this is a kick in the nuts!

If you don’t like the music, sports, people, movies ect.. Turn it off. $$ drives the platform. If you have a brain use it.. I wonder how many people who watch college/NFL games in crowded stadiums were vacinnate or wearing mask. Most of my camera views saw no mask. No empty stadiums. Did not see reports of outbreaks in any of those major cities that hosted those games. Science is so absolute and seems to change with weather just like the virus and its ability to mutate.

So Rogan used the “n” word more than 20 times and still Spotify stands by him. They’ve lost me as a customer. I cancelled my subscription yesterday.
I support discussion particularly if folks don’t agree. Open exchanges, opens eyes. You cancel an account, music, your involvement, or discussion, you make a statement, but not about the topic at hand, only that you are closed down and keep to your own council. You leave no room for exchange, or growth.
