David Slade, who’s been chosen to direct the third Twilight movie, Eclipse, said in a Twitter post last November that he didn’t want to see Twilight and wouldn’t, not even “at gunpoint. Just shoot me.” It seems his revulsion doesn’t extend to refusing to direct a sequel, for which he’ll be paid handsomely. Since being given the job of helming Eclipse, he’s changed his tune somewhat, first deleting his Twitter account, then writing an e-mail to Twilight Lexicon: “When I made these comments, I had neither seen the film nor read the books. I was promoting a comedy short film that I had made for Xbox and every pop culture subject was seen as a possible comedy target. I was being silly and none of the statements were from the heart. Of course, I have since seen the movie and read the books and was quickly consumed with the rich storytelling and the beautifully honest characters that Stephenie Meyer created. I would like to reassure everyone involved that I am invested in making the best film that I am humanly capable of, and that I am acutely aware of the power of the original books we serve. Please be rest assured this statement is absolutely from the heart.” Sincere? Or just wanting to keep his finger firmly in a piece of the money-making Twilight pie? ~movi_alex
Pie, for sure!
give the guy a break. I said the EXACT same thing about Twilight before seeing the movie. I waited for it to come out on DVD before I finally saw it.
Since then I bought the movie, and read all the books. Im a huge fan of the series now. People need to just get that first foot in the door.
wow. the things people will say (and take back) for money.
What the hell is he doing with his fingers….adding the number of fans he possibly has? 😀
what is up with these guys these days always having to hold up their hands or fingers in these weird ways, or having their arms folded in a weird fashion, every time a camera is pointed at them? someone please tell them they look STUPID!!!! put your hands down, you look like an idiot!
I totally agree with the last three comments. Money is what changed his mind, and yes, he does look like an idiot.
