Ellen DeGeneres donates one million dog meals

Ellen DeGeneres donates one million dog mealsAnimal lover Ellen DeGeneres and Halo brand pet food have teamed up to donate one million meals to shelter dogs. The talkshow host wants the dogs to have healthy food while waiting to be adopted and Halo has confirmed that it has “delivered” on the goal of one million meals.

DeGeneres says “At Halo we want to promote healthy living for pets and good food is a big part of that. So we agreed to donate one million meals of Halo to shelter pets. I mean, imagine, an animal in a shelter, in a cage, lonely – a good meal is kinda all they have to look forward to, until you adopt them!” Also involved in the campaign were Freekibble, The Humane Society of the US, ASPCA, Pets for Patriots and The National Canine Cancer Foundation.

Some people don’t know what to do with all the money they have. It’s not like the dogs will know the difference between a good meal and a regular meal. I think she could have spent the money on something more worth while.

With the food expense being subsidized by Ellen and Halo, then the shelter can keep the pets until they find a home instead of having to euthanize them. Irresponsible people are filling those shelters and it is positive to see that decent people are trying to make a difference. Why not ask what else Ellen is doing to make a difference? Perhaps she is also helping some worthy human causes as well.

Just because they are dogs does not mean they are less worthy. Ellen is a vegan, and she is a wonderful person. She cares for the non-humans in need that many humans seem to ignore. Yay for Ellen!

Wow Scotch – what a truly ignorant comment. Did Ellen G spend her money on a lavish vacation? Cosmetic surgery? No – on a worthwhile charity for a very needy cause. Yes, I too used to be of the mindframe of “why would anyone donate to animals when there are so many people in need?”. But as a reformed dog lover, the sad truth of the matter is – marginalized people have a voice – however small it may be. Unfortunately, at risk animals – abused and neglected ones, do not. Good for her to put aside her money to such a needy cause.

It was a wonderful thing for Ellen to do! She seems like a very nice lady. Myself, being vegetarian, and an animal lover (especially a dog lover) think that it is great that these animals are not forgotten while are happily waiting to new homes.

1 MILLION is not small potatoes. And dogs are loyal and the best friend you can ever have. So, to feed them and house them while others beat and starve and discard them is a great charitable feat. Way to go Ellen. I’m not her biggest fan, I do think she is mildly amusing sometimes, but when I hear people doing things that can made a negative into a positive, then I respect them.

Agree @ally, such a nice thing for her to do. I hope those dogs find loving, happy homes.

scotch, I don’t find your comment ignorant, just differs to mine and (obviously) others…

what celebritiies choose to spend their copious amounts of money on repeatedly evokes strong opinions on this site

I rate Ellen’s gesture highly admirable
