Elvis Presley’s crypt for sale

By Tribute on May 30, 2012 | 2 Comments

Tales of the crypt keeper? Not quite, but the tomb that temporarily held the bodies of Elvis Presley and his mother Gladys, is being auctioned off next month by Julien’s Auctions. When Elvis died in August 1977 his body, alongside that of his mother, was stored in a crypt at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee. After two months in storage the deceased were moved onto the grounds of Elvis’ Graceland mansion, which is now known as a National Historic Landmark. The auction, which takes place June 23rd and 24th, will also include items of clothing worn by Amy Winehouse and John Lennon, and a letter written by Michael Jackson to his former wife, Lisa Marie Presley. However, Presley’s tomb is expected to draw the most attention, and most money. “I just consider that if you’re an ultimate fan of Elvis Presley, it’s an opportunity,” said Darren Julien, president of Julien’s Auctions. “It’s definitely a conversation piece. Only one person can say, ‘Hey, I’m going to be buried where Elvis Presley was.” Disturbing, but it is official, Elvis has left the building and his tomb will start at the hefty price of $100,000. ~Krystin Edgerton
