Emma Stone cast in Spider-Man

Easy A star Emma Stone has been cast in Spider-Man 4. Rumors were circulating that Emma had been offered the role of Mary Jane Watson in the fourth instalment of the comic-book franchise, but Sony has confirmed Emma will actually be playing Gwen Stacey, another of the superhero’s love interests. Andrew Garfield will be playing Spider-Man/Peter Parker in the upcoming movie, with production expected to begin in December. “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice,” director Marc Webb told MTV. Marc has high hopes for the pair, and he thinks they will bring a unique new edge to the fourth movie. “At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own,” he added. Fans of the franchise are now eager to discover who will be cast as Mary Jane. The stars who had been in the running for the part of Gwen may now be considered – these include Mia Wasikowska and Glee actress Dianna Agron.

I really like her, and she seems to be the new “it girl” of Hollywood – looking forward to Spiderman 4!

She was great in Easy A, I would have preferred her to be Mary-Jane. But since they didn’t pick her, I think Mary-Kate Olsen would make a good Mary-Jane.

Isn’t Gwen Stacy a redhead? Bryce Dallas Howard (a redhead) played her in Spider-Man 3.

I think Gwen Stacy is a blonde, but I read somewhere that Emma Stone is a natural blonde, rather than a redhead. Either way, I don’t think it matters! I think she’ll be great.

Not sure why it’s being referred to as Spider-Man 4… it’s not a continuation.
