Emma Watson cast in Beauty and the Beast

Emma WatsonEmma Watson has been cast as Belle in Disney’s new live-action musical Beauty and the Beast. Director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 & 2), will team up with writer Stephen Chbosky, who previously directed Emma in The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Emma, excited to be playing the part of Belle, wrote on her Facebook to express her joy.

“I’m finally able to tell you … that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action ‘Beauty and the Beast’! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six-year-old self is on the ceiling — heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx.”

Still widely recognized as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series, Emma has been trying to show her versatility as an actress outside of Hogwarts with a string of films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Noah, The Bling Ring and This is the End.

Look for Emma alongside Daniel Brühl in Colonia, which releases this October. ~Andrew Siwik
