Ender’s Game rockets to top spot at weekend box office

Ender's GameEnder’s Game surprised many with an impressive $28 million at the box office, securing the top spot this weekend. The military sci-fi adaptation of the Orson Scott Card book stars Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin and received a Tribute viewer rating of 3.7 stars. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa dropped to second place with a weekend take of $20.5 million and a Tribute rating of 3.8 stars. The R-rated comedy starring Johnny Knoxville grossed $62.06 million. Taking the third spot was newcomer Last Vegas, starring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline. The film exceeded expectations, generating $16.5 million and a high Tribute rating of 4.5 stars. Animated Thanksgiving-themed Free Birds clucked its way to fourth place, taking in $16.2 million at the box office. Tribute viewers rated the movie 3.8 stars. Rounding out the top five was the space thriller, Gravity. The film garnered $13.13 million over the weekend, pushing the total gross earnings to a solid $219.2 million, with a Tribute rating of 3.2 stars.

Included in the top ten were Captain Phillips, 12 Years a Slave, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Carrie and The Counselor.
