Familiar faces join The Hobbit

Ian McKellen as GandalfProduction of The Hobbit is moving forward now that director Guillermo Del Toro has officially signed on to helm the film, and it seems the movie will feature many familiar faces. Del Toro has spoken with Lord of the Rings alumni Ian McKellan (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum) and it looks like they are on board for the prequel. Del Toro has said he wants all of the key cast members to return for The Hobbit. The director has also commented on the second film he will direct for the series, which will feature an almost entirely invented chronicle of the time between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Ok just so people know. They were originally going to cast Adam Sandler as gandalf but then they decided to use Martin Short because they liked how he looked in the Santa Claus 3 movie. Now they are getting all the characters back and this is such a great relief.

Jimbos, I hope you are just kidding! Adam Sandler and Martin Short? Either one of them would totally ruin this movie! Ian McKellan is awesome for this role though, and Andy Serkis did an excellent job also (as did the computer genius involved in the Gollum/Smeagal character).

all you people on here who actually think they would actually consider adam sandler and martin short for these films are just really gulible. oh my. lol. good joke there though.

WTF? This entire series is a joke – the first trilogy was too “Hollywood”, and to hear about “new” episodes in between Tolkien’s stories is sickening.

Expect to experience strokes and brain freeze from all the CGI in these ones 🙁
