Film composer James Horner dies in plane crash

James HornerIconic composer James Horner, 61, who was best known for composing scores for blockbuster films including Titanic and The Amazing Spider-Man, died yesterday in a plane crash.

The composer’s plane crashed in Los Padres National Forest near Santa Barbara on Monday morning. Horner was driving the plane and was the only victim. His assistant Sylvia Patrycja confirmed his death via her Facebook page in the hours following the reports that a plane had gone down, when the pilot was still unidentified.

“We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart, and unbelievable talent,” Patrycja wrote on Facebook. “He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road.”

Horner, who became widely known for winning two Oscars for Titanic, also earned Oscar nominations in the following years such as A Beautiful Mind and Avatar. Celebrities have been expressing their grief on social media.  Celine Dion, who worked with Horner on Titanic expressed her grief in a statement. “Rene and I are deeply saddened by the tragic death of James Horner. He will always remain a great composer in our hearts. James played an important part in my career. We will miss him. We offer his family and friends our deepest sympathy.”

Horner is survived by his wife and two children. ~Maria-Josee Martinez
