Fred Willard fired by PBS after lewd conduct arrest

When 72-year-old comedic actor Fred Willard was arrested for lewd conduct at a XXX adult movie theater, it took only hours for PBS to reach the decision to fire him. A rep for WGBH, the public broadcaster that produces the television show he hosts, Market Warriors, released a statement, reading, “Given the unfortunate news reported today, effective immediately, Fred Willard no longer will be involved with the Market Warriors series.” Known for his roles in films such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, the star and his lawyer, Paul Takakjian, intend to defend his name, telling TMZ, “With all due respect to the individual officer, our belief is that Fred did nothing in any violation of any law.” TMZ also reports that California law states public masturbation is only illegal if it occurs within eyeshot of someone who may be offended, and in an adult movie theater with only four other reported patrons, the likelihood of someone being within eyeshot, let alone being offended, is quite low. Willard can be seen in the upcoming, and now ironically titled film, The Yank. ~ Morgan Bates

People are making more out of this than the story warrants. In truth, the actor was at the theater filming a segment of his upcoming reality series for Showtime, “The Cummings & Goings of Fred Willard.” And let’s not forget, there are worse things to take to a movie screening than a penis…
