Frozen II ices out weekend box office competition

The highly anticipated animated sequel, Frozen II, debuted in first place at the box office, pushing last weekend’s first-place finisher, Ford v Ferrari, to second place.
Frozen II set a new record when it sold more tickets in the first 24 hours of pre-sale than any other animated movie ever. Opening in over 4,400 theatres across North America, it set another record this weekend when it debuted with a total take of $127 million, making it the third-biggest opening ever for an animated film (behind Incredibles 2‘s $182 million in 2018 and Finding Dory‘s $135 million in 2016) and Walt Disney Animation’s biggest opening ever. It also set the record for biggest global opening for an animated film ever, making $350 million worldwide. Click here to watch our interviews with the cast.
Dropping one place to second was Ford v Ferrari, starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon. It earned an additional $16 million for a total of $58 million in its second weekend.
Debuting in third was A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, starring Tom Hanks as the beloved children’s TV host, Mr. Rogers. It earned an estimated $13.5 million during its first weekend.
Another new movie, 21 Bridges, starring Chadwick Boseman as an NYPD detective who specializes in taking down cop killers, debuted in fourth, with earnings of $9.3 million in its first weekend.
Rounding out the top five was Midway, which takes place during WWII after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It took in an additional $4.7 million for a total of $43.1 million during its third weekend. ~May Wong

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire continued to dominate the weekend box office, claiming the top spot for the second week in a row with another $31.7 million.
How do you set a record for the third biggest opening for an animated movie ever? That’s like saying the 27th biggest opening for an animated movie ever gets a record if you are counting top 50 or it displaced the previous 27th highest grosser. Or is it just counting the top 3 and it displaced the previous #3?

Anyway, like it wasn’t expected to slaughter ever other movie. Pretty much Disney stock just jumped up big time this year with the Avengers movies, Frozen 2 and now Star Wars comes out in a few weeks and not to mention Disney+ and their millions of subscribers. Disney has pretty much made back all the $ they invested in taking over other companies like 20th Century Fox and creating Disney + and new theme park attractions. They will soon print money with the mickey mouse ears cause they pretty much have a licence to print! Their dollar will go head to head with the US breenback…probably will buy the mint ha ha.

Great movie, my kids loved it.
The film’s grown up with my girl. She loved it because it was more mature. And she should know ’cause now she’s 10! They hit the nail in the head to keep growing the franchise and we contrubuted to the third largest box office gross for animated film In Forever!
My granddaughter loved it and so did i
