Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams unsure about Arya’s future

Maisie WilliamsThe highly anticipated fifth season of Game of Thrones is still months away, but Maisie Williams, who plays fan favorite Arya Stark, may have just given a major spoiler for how this season turns out for her character. “We’re coming to the end [of the books] now, so I don’t know what they’re going to do next year. It’s the end of Arya, as far as anyone knows,” she told The Guardian. She continued, giving details on what happens to the much-beloved Stark daughter. “There’s a big ending for Arya,” she explained. “They’re basically breaking her down, and you get to see behind the cracks.”

This isn’t the first time an actor’s role in the show has been rumored to be put on hold due to a lack of book material. The show’s executive producers admitted that both Bran and Hodor won’t be appearing in the upcoming season, as the show has caught up to their timeline in A Dance With Dragons. There is still plenty of Arya material from the books to cover, but from Maisie’s comments it sounds like the show is catching up far more quickly than anticipated.

The next installment in the series, The Winds of Winter, has yet to confirm a release date, but author George R.R. Martin has taken a step down from the show to focus on finishing the novel. ~Kelly Townsend

I hope Arya can find a way to soldier on.

I thought I read that Martin was actually currently finishing up writing a novel based on the Aegon the Conqueror (or Unlikely if you will) character. It started out as a shorter work that he has now decided to expand. So, at least to the end of the last book with Arya Stark, we DO know what happens to that character. It could be though that Maisie Williams will be too old to play the character by the time they get around to filming the events in the last books and the series creators will have to drastically alter things. At least, that’s my take on it. However, Martin himself has been asked about the final outcome of the saga to which he said he envisions it as a large graveyard with lots of graves…
