In the heart of Canadian winter, movie theatres across Canada are celebrating the ultimate theatre snack. January 19, 2025 is National Popcorn Day and Canadian theatres have a variety of offers for guests. From the big chains to independent theatres, there will be a lot of ways to get your hands on some good popcorn. Find showtimes by clicking here. Top films this weekend are expected to be: Mufasa: The Lion King; Moana 2; Den of Thieves: Pantera 2; Wicked; Wolf Man; Nosferatu, September 5 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Landmark Cinemas will be offering free medium popcorn for their EXTRAS members on January 19. In addition they are also holding a contest where the prize is free popcorn for a year. The winner gets one free medium bag of popcorn everytime they go to a Landmark theatre. To enter go to Landmark’s Instagram page where you can answer a trivia question every day until January 19, each correct answer is an entry.
Cineplex will be extending the celebration throughout the entire weekend. From January 17 to 19, 2025, movie lovers across Canada will be treated to free popcorn in a nationwide event. Scene+ members who purchase a movie ticket can receive a free small bag of popcorn at Cineplex theatres upon scanning their card at the concession stand. The offer is valid for one bag per member per day, as long as they have a movie ticket.
In Quebec, Cinémas Guzzo will be participating on Sunday January 19. Last year, they offered an upgrade to large for customers who purchased a regular size popcorn. It’s believed they’ll have similar deals this year.
It’s not just the theatre chains — smaller, independent theatres across the country are celebrating the occasion in their own way.
Fox Theatre in Pincher Creek, Alberta is doing a BYOB, bring your own bucket, on January 19. Popcorn lovers can fill their bucket for $8.00 up to 400 ounces, which is equivalent to two extra large bags, or buy one of their mini tubs for $3.00. It’s important to note that these offers are not exclusive to moviegoers.
Film.ca Cinemas, located in Oakville and Petawawa, Ontario, will be offering free unlimited refills on any size popcorn on January 19.

An ‘ok’ idea. Popcorn is cheap, so it should not be expensive at theatres to begin with. And ticket prices. The discounts should be for every Tuesday, or so, like in the past. Because I am in a house with cable now, and the prices so high at the theatres, I go less. And I do not notice many quality movies in the theatres, that make me want to go. We have cineplex gift cards from family, so we will go, but…
We like seeing movies but the ad on’s are so expensive .I have nothing against making a profit but the price of popcorn is absolutely stupid . and i do not mind paying for butter but they are so cheap putting butter on then when they say if you want butter all the way threw the bag it will be extra on top of the price you already paid. Why not make TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS SPECIAL PRICE DAY NOT ONLY ON TICKETS BUT EVERYTHING. YOU WOULD BE LOSING A BIT OF MONEY but would make it up on more people coming . myself and my wife would go every week instead of once or twice a month
