Good Times coming to the big screen

The hit 70’s television sitcom Good Times is coming to the big screen, courtesy of Sony Pictures. Scott Rudin will produce, with the help of Eli Bush, who has worked with Rudin previously on recent films like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Moonrise Kingdom (2012), and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2012). Screenwriter Phil Johnston, who co-wrote the script for Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph (2012), has been assigned the delicate task of bringing the show’s original social-savviness to the feature film script. The TV show, which aired on CBS between 1974-1979, followed a working-class African-American family of five living in Chicago. It starred John Amos and Esther Rolle as parents James and Florida Evans, and Jimmie Walker (J. J.), Ralph Carter (Michael), and BernNadette Stanis (Thelma) as the three children. There is no word on the film’s cast yet and fans of the show will undoubtedly be anxious to hear who will play J. J., the character responsible for the popular catch-phrase, “Dy-no-mite!” ~Cassie Jasinski
