Gossip Girl star denies being fat

By Alexandra Heilbron on August 5, 2010 | 12 Comments

Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg, who first rose to fame playing the title role as a skinny 11-year-old in the feature film Harriet the Spy, and then played Buffy’s younger sister on the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is angry that some media outlets are calling her fat. Hollywoodlife.com caught up with her at the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge, where she grabbed both sides of her waist, saying, “Look at me. Tell me, where am I fat?” she asked. “It isn’t even about me, it’s about the message it sends to normal girls.” She added: “Some girl in Middle America is gonna pick up [a tabloid] and say, ‘Oh Michelle is my favorite actress and they think she’s fat, what does that say about me?’” [Poll=207]

It’s a sad day when anyone over a size 0 is considered fat and a plus size model is a size 8 … hello … is there anybody out there … hello

Rock those heavenly curves. If that is what they call fat, I’ll have what she’s having.

Geez, I don’t even want to know what they’d call me if she’s fat. I think she looks great. I’d love to see what the “critics” look like

Get a life and stop picking on people, perhaps the writer of this article is him/herself extremely FATTTTTT

Curves are where it’s at. Why wants to be with a walking pile of sticks? And she’s right-what kind of msg does this send to kids? There’s a happy medium people need to be at and be healthy, but unless the person writing an article is in the healthy section and is a doctor, they should keep their opinions to themselves.

I went to school in the 80’s where quite a few of us starved or purged ourselves (‘thin was very much in’ back then) which in my age group led to a group of women in their 30’s and 40’s with very bad body images. That in itself can be very dangerous. I honestly don’t know when those that are supposed to be in the know will become responsible for what they advertise.(hopefully it’s when tv and print refuse to run the ads) It dosen’t matter how well educated or how wealthy a woman is, we will always image ourselves to what is in the public eye and mimic what we see, which in turn makes our daughters mimic us in return when we aren’t looking and then here comes a new generation of women who don’t like what they see in the mirror. I hope you never have to watch your child go through life thinking they are less than what they really are. You are not responsible for anyone but yourself, but when what you say affects millions, you then become responsible by default.

Different looks appeal to different people. What I think is “heavy” or “slim” others may think is “perfect”….

you should be and want to be responsible for yourself and those that are dependant on you, i.e. your family when minors, or elderly and ill, etc. I don’t believe you are responsible for anything you offer as your own personal opinion which other adults choose to adopt/act upon…as adults, their actions then become their own responsibilty, no default blame attached…

for the record, I think Michelle looks just fine…
