GQ won’t apologize to Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Earlier this month, Joseph Gordon-Levitt had a dispute with GQ over its featured article about the actor in the August 2012 issue. Gordon-Levitt was deeply disappointed with how the magazine chose to discuss the sensitive issue of his older brother’s death. The actor openly criticized the magazine on his Tumblr page, calling them “irresponsible.” However, GQ is standing its ground and will not offer an apology. The publication released a statement saying, “The magazine stands by its reporting, the facts of which are fully supported—and have been confirmed in detail—by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.” In 2010, Dan’s death was caused by a ketamine intoxication. The coroner’s office characterized the death as accidental since the overdose is what caused injury. Though no apology was given, the magazine concluded, “Because the writer, Amy Wallace, and her editors understood the pain Dan’s passing caused the Gordon-Levitt family, the story sought to be respectful—and brief—in the way it described his death, which GQ felt was a relevant fact in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s biography.” ~Isabelle Khoo
