Gravity holds top spot at weekend box office

Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, maintained its top spot at the weekend box office. The space thriller garnered $43.19 million over the weekend, pushing the total gross earnings to a solid $122.32 million. The film received a Tribute rating of 3.3 stars. Opening in second place was Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks as the Maersk Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips. The film earned $25.7 million and scored a high Tribute rating of 4 stars. Landing in third place was the animated flick, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. The animated sequel earned $13.77 million and a Tribute rating of 4 stars. Action flick Machete Kills opened to $3.8 million, taking the fourth position at the box office. The film, starring Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara and Amber Heard, received 2.5 stars from Tribute fans. Runner Runner, starring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, also roped in $3.8 million, taking the fifth position at the box office. Tribute users gave the film 3.6 stars.
