With so many fans waiting for the sequel, it’s no surprise that the highly-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 forced The Fate of the Furious to take a back seat after three weeks at number one.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finds the gang (Peter, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Baby Groot) reunite to save the galaxy. After the success of the first Guardians of the Galaxy and with so much hype surrounding its sequel, the film opened to a stellar $146.5 million in box office earnings. The film has garnered a 4.1 star rating from our users.
The Fate of the Furious was pushed to the second spot at the box office, ending its three-week reign at number one. In its fourth week, the film took in $8.6 million to make its current domestic gross a hefty $207.1 million. Our users are still enjoying the ride, giving the film a rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars.
Up from fourth and taking third spot at the weekend box office was the animated comedy The Boss Baby. The film is still going strong in its sixth week with audiences as it added $6 million to its take this past weekend to make its current domestic gross $156.5 million. The movie garnered a 3 star rating from our users.
In its second week, the comedy How to Be a Latin Lover dropped from second to fourth spot, taking in $5.1 million to make its current domestic gross $20.5 million. The film continues to woo our users, receiving a rating of 3.9 stars.
Taking fifth spot in its eighth week at the box office was Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Still singing its way into the hearts of audiences, the film earned $5 million to make its gross domestic earnings a huge $487.7 million. Our users have given it a rating of 3.6 stars. ~Alexa Caruso
