Gwyneth Paltrow signs deal with Atlantic Records

Gwyneth Paltrow, who played a country singer in Country Strong and who made her live singing debut at the 2010 Country Music Awards, has signed a deal believed to be worth $900,000 with Atlantic Records to record her debut album. Insiders who’ve heard early tracks for the album describe it as country pop. Paltrow sang the Academy-Award nominated song “Home” from Country Song during the Oscars broadcast this year and she also performed a duet with Cee Lo Green on this year’s Grammy Awards show, singing his hit “Forget You,” which she earlier performed on the musical TV series Glee. Her first recorded song was on the soundtrack for the film Duets, in which she played a karaoke singer. Her mother, Bythe Danner, told MTV News: “I never am surprised by what she can do; in my mind, there’s nothing she can’t do. And I think that after she had children and wanted to get back into acting … I think this was very joyful thing for her to do and a great release. There’s a liberating thing about singing and dancing. It’s just a gift to be able to do it. She’s always had the talents. She always could do these wonderful harmonies. I’m not a bit surprised. I’m thrilled, because I know what fun it can be.”

For someone who’s known as an actress, she’s a pretty amazing singer/performer.

Give…me….a….BREAK! She is okay but c’mon, a record deal! Stick to acting, honey. Let your husband do the music thing.

Yea, I agree with you David! She is a so-so singer and I can’t believe she got a record deal, lol!

Do you see who get’s record deals – this isn’t surprising at all. Although, she does have some talent – as an actress and a singer.

She is an above average actress and a run-of-the-mill singer. So she does have some good going for her as she could land vocal roles in acting but I certainly wouldn’t pay to see her in concert.

I won’t be running out to buy her music, she should stick to acting. There are too many second rate singers out there already. Scotty from the new American Idol show, now there’s a young kid with an amazing voice He can go out now and make a recording and I’d buy it. He’s my number one choice this year, go Scotty……….

She’s a terrific singer & actress. She put out an amazing big hit a few years ago……sang it with a guy, I can’t remember his name or the name of the song. It was everybody’s favourite. I’m just curious about why a singer would agree to a $900,000 deal. That’s less than a million and when a song becomes a really big hit it makes several millions. I thought singers got a percentage of the sales because nobody knows how big it will go over until it gets out there. $900,000 wouldn’t be much of a cut for a top hit. The US alone has over 300 million people. If only half of them liked a song, that’s 150 million albums sold and the singer only gets less than one million. I must be missing something??

I remember the name of the hit now, it was called “Cruisin”. Nobody could have done a better job of that song, it just flowed out of her.

Okay, of ALL the ridiculous people who’ve been able to get record deals, are we really going to complain about Gwyneth? She’s no Christina or Whitney, but the girl isn’t half bad. And she has heart. And is a wonderful performer – singing, acting, dancing, whatever. She’s expanding her entertainer career and all the power to her. Good on her 🙂

I totally agree with Cindy, and all the other “positive” comments. I really like Paltrow, and I believe she can make it as a singer, as she already has made it as an actress. In the article, it showed us that her Mother, former actress Blythe Danner, really believes in her daughter, and backs her up 100%–that’s really important–to have a parent who really Believes in what you’re capable of. I say “More Power to Her”!! She does have a “gift”! Good Luck to her!!
