The new release, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour in 3D has topped the box office in its debut weekend with a $29 million take (all figures US). That is the most money ever earned by a movie released in so few theatres – in this case, 680 theaters, meaning it earned an average of $42,500 per theater on Super Bowl weekend, normally a slow time at the box office. A typical No. 1 movie earns $7,000 per theater in 3,000 locations. Because of its phenomenal success, the film, which was originally scheduled to screen for one week only, has had its run extended as long as tickets sales keep up. Other top films were The Eye, opening at No. 2 with $13 million, 27 Dresses, retaining its hold on No. 3 in its third week out, earning $8.4 million, Juno in fourth place with $7.45 million, and Meet the Spartans, dropping from the top spot to round out the top five with $7.13 million.
