Hannah Montana breaks box office records

Hanna MontanaThe new release, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour in 3D has topped the box office in its debut weekend with a $29 million take (all figures US). That is the most money ever earned by a movie released in so few theatres – in this case, 680 theaters, meaning it earned an average of $42,500 per theater on Super Bowl weekend, normally a slow time at the box office. A typical No. 1 movie earns $7,000 per theater in 3,000 locations. Because of its phenomenal success, the film, which was originally scheduled to screen for one week only, has had its run extended as long as tickets sales keep up. Other top films were The Eye, opening at No. 2 with $13 million, 27 Dresses, retaining its hold on No. 3 in its third week out, earning $8.4 million, Juno in fourth place with $7.45 million, and Meet the Spartans, dropping from the top spot to round out the top five with $7.13 million. Click here to read Tribute’s exclusive interview with Miley Cyrus, the star of Hannah Montana.

  3. Arnold • February 4, 2008 @ 12:42 PM

Serious, you’ve gotta check it out. Much better than I though it’d be.

  4. Arnold • February 4, 2008 @ 2:40 PM

I think a new Arnold is on the scene. I’d rather comb Jack Laytons mustache before watching that movie!

They extended the show for a few more days, I just got tickets!!!!

  6. Nancy • February 4, 2008 @ 3:14 PM

Yeah Arnie…..I kinda figured something was up….either that or you had lost it!!! Hee hee. I think it is this ‘Anonymous’ person….the RUDE one….the one who is blaming you for being the double!

  7. Stan • February 4, 2008 @ 4:30 PM

I’m not surprised at all! I’ve seen it three times and will see it many more times now it’s run has been extended! Miley really is the most exciting performer in music today and “The Best of Both Worlds 3-D Concert Movie” is THE LAST WALTZ of our generation.

That girl rocks! We caught the Friday midnight showing and the theatre was packed to the gills! This is going to be the most successful concert movie of all time.

Ok, check out Stans comment on Feb 4 at 4:30. It is just NOT him. Check out who was on here posting comments in that time frame. Arnold, that’s who. I don’t care if I’m being rude or not, I think it’s pretty rude of Arnold to be annoying everybody all the time by using their names and saying stupid stuff that they would never say. Like Stan ^^^.

So there are two Stan’s now?

  14. Anonymous • February 5, 2008 @ 2:54 AM

nope, just one Stan, and Arnold, the Stan-wanna-be.

To claim that this is the best concert/movie ever simply shows a very limited movie-going experience. Comment like that are probably written by 10-14 year olds. Sure, its great, but not the best ever.

Our family was extremely disappointed with the movie. We love Hannah and Miley, but our theatre didn’t even have any 3-D glasses on hand, which made the experience all the more frustrating.

I can’t say much about this movie, I haven’t seen it and I won’t be seeing it. Even my little girls didn’t want to see it, which surprised me.

  18. Anonymous • February 5, 2008 @ 2:07 PM

Maybe your little girls can smell a stinker 🙂

  19. tributegirl • February 5, 2008 @ 3:01 PM

Maybe! They are pretty bright! Anyway, I’m glad they didn’t want to go, that meant I didn’t have to spend my hard earned money on this movie.

Actually….the candle has been lit since the first time I ever came on this site…Ha ha…but I will light a few more just for the cause!! Arnie….I’m starting to like your ‘spunk’!

A great opening weekend at the box office means nothing. Watch it take a hugh drop in its second week.

  22. Mel • February 6, 2008 @ 2:25 PM

Now that the target audience has seen it, it will nosedive.

  23. tributegirl • February 7, 2008 @ 4:09 PM

I don’t know, I’ll be going back to see it again. I think it will do very well.
