The fifth installment in the Harry Potter movie franchise, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, brought in over $12 million (all figures US) at opening day midnight showings alone, according to the Hollywood Reporter. That beats the previous record holder, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which took in $8 million in 2003. In 2005, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, made $6 million on opening night. The current film is also breaking records overseas.
