Helen Mirren hated Hitchcock

There has always been much talk about the work and private life of Psycho director Alfred Hitchcock. This year alone, there have been two different biopics about the renowned English filmmaker. But it is Sacha Gervasi’s film Hitchcock starring Anthony Hopkins as a prosthetic-infused Hitchcock and Helen Mirren as his longtime spouse Alma Reville that’s currently getting media attention. The reason? Mirren, 67, recently admitted that she met Hitchcock when she was first starting out as an actress, saying, “I met with Hitchcock when I was a very, very young actress just starting out and he was making Frenzy in London and I was sent along to meet with him. He was very, very unimpressed with me and I have to say, I was rather unimpressed with him — but only because I was an arrogant, ignorant young actress.” She added, “I didn’t really like him, and I know he didn’t like me very much…he certainly didn’t cast me.” Mirren didn’t mind though, as she says, “I didn’t really want to be in the movie. I had no appreciation of who Alfred Hitchcock was. He was just an old-fashioned guy making old-fashioned movies, as far as I was concerned. I was ignorant and prejudiced.”

At least she’s honest and respectful, classy lady.
