Hilary Duff’s dad behind bars

Hilary Duff’s father was handcuffed and sentenced to 10 days in jail on Wednesday. According to the Houston Chronicle, Hilary’s mom, Susan, took her ex-husband Bob to court because she wanted $25,000 to spend on Hilary’s party. During cross examination, Bob’s lawyer, Robert Piro, asked Susan if her “adult millionaire daughter” would be upset if she did not receive an expensive gift and party for her birthday. Susan responded that Hilary “is emotionally upset by the abandonment of her father” and deserves “to have some kind of recognition for a young life well-lived.” Bob, who stayed behind in Houston when his wife moved their two daughters to Los Angeles over a decade ago to pursue their careers, pays $10,000 a month in support. The judge ruled that Bob would have to pay half — $12,500 — but then went on to sentence him to jail for contempt of court for selling stocks in the amount of $367,537, because divorce paper decree he’s not allowed to sell assets without first getting court approval. Susan gasped: “This isn’t what I wanted,” when deputies fingerprinted Bob and led him away in handcuffs. Of course not. Looks like all she wanted was to extract more cash from her ex, even though money is not scarce in the Duff household, thanks to her successful actress/singer daughters (Hilary and her 23-year-old sister Haylie). As he was being led away, Bob said he wanted to talk to a reporter but couldn’t because of a gag order. “I wish I could,” he said. “I’ve got a lot to say.”
