Hilton wants to help drunk elephants

Paris Hilton, who vowed to get involved in charity work following her release from jail on a DUI charge, is speaking up about the devastating drunken elephant situation in India. “The elephants get drunk all the time. It is becoming really dangerous. We need to stop making alcohol available to them,” the 26-year-old socialite was quoted as saying by the World Entertainment News Network’s Web site. She made the comment after six thirsty elephants broke into a farm in Meghalaya, India, and got drunk on the farmer’s homemade rice beer. The intoxicated elephants then uprooted an electricity pole and were jolted to death. “There would have been more casualties if the villagers hadn’t chased them away,” said Hilton. “And four elephants died in a similar way three years ago. It is just so sad.” Hilton was in Tokyo judging a beauty contest when she learned about the elephant tragedy and felt compelled to speak up.
