This weekend two new releases made the top five at the box office.
Blazing up the charts to first place was How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. The third installment finds Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless discover their true destinies, but they’re also confronted by the darkest threat they’ve ever faced. The film debuted in the top spot and as the number one debut of the year so far with an impressive $55.5 million at the box office this weekend.
Alita: Battle Angel was bumped down a spot to second place in its second weekend at the box office. The film is about a cyborg core (Rosa Salazar) who is rebuilt into a deadly new body. This movie gained an additional $12 million for a total of $60.7 million.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part also dropped a spot, winding up in third place in its third weekend at the box office. The animated film starring the voices of Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks gained an additional $10 million for a domestic total of $83.6 million.
Debuting in fourth place was the comedy film Fighting With My Family. This biopic stars Florence Pugh as a girl who finds her dreams coming true when she’s invited to train to be a professional wrestler. The film, which also stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, earned $8 million in its opening weekend.
Rounding out the top five was the rom-com Isn’t it Romantic. This weekend the film earned an additional $7.5 million for a total of $33.8 million. ~Emily Chavez
