The 86th annual Academy Awards ceremony was one of the most entertaining in recent years due in large part to Ellen DeGeneres, back as host after an eight-year absence. Her antics (including ordering pizzas for the celebs in the audience and having the delivery guy pass out slices, then taking up a collection to pay him) and jokes were non-stop hilarious, providing humor in between awards, songs and presentations.
The movies and artists nominated this year were outstanding and we know many of our Tribute readers enjoyed best picture nominees such as Gravity, Captain Phillips and American Hustle. Surprises were few, with Matthew McConaughey, Cate Blanchett (pictured at left), Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o taking home the acting honors and 12 Years a Slave winning best picture. Winning the most Oscars was Gravity, with seven awards, including best director for Alfonso Cuaron.
