Abercrombie & Fitch will pay reality star not to wear their clothes

Abercrombie & Fitch are asking Jersey Shore‘s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino to shop elsewhere and stop wearing their clothes because they’re embarrassed at being connected to him or the show. They released a statement Tuesday saying they have a “deep concern” over the connection between him and their clothing and are offering him a “substantial payment to wear an alternate brand.” Sorrentino, aka “Sitch,” and his Jersey Shore pals have been seen wearing clothing clearly labeled as belonging to Abercrombie & Fitch’s line, including a pair of sweatpants he wore on a recent episode that had ABERCROMBIE written in big letters on the left leg. They wrote: “We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans.” They’re also offering to pay off the rest of the Jersey Shore cast, as well as the producers. Jersey Shore airs on MTV Canada and follows a group of Italian-Americans.

The guy is a total embarassment, he and Paris Hilton should marry and together they would have one brain cell. If I were Abercrombie & Finch, I would just ask the guy to stop wearing their clothes and advertise the fact – but not pay him.
I feel that by paying him or any other member of this horrible show for not wearing the clothing is exactly what these morons want! The appear to do absolutely ANYTHING FOR MONEY!!! These reality show morons are an absolute waste of time and space as they love the media following them. They should all get real jobs and real lives and leave the rest of us to our own. Those kids are poor excuse of humans except maybe Pauly D. and Vinny who seem to have more common sense then the others. I watch the show because it makes me laugh to see them behave so poorly and get in stupid fights. “Situation” is the dumbest guy I have ever seen on TV, that habit of always showings his abs makes him such a D-bag.

Although I think that JS doesn’t deserve to have air time, I’m a little perplexed by Abercrombie & Fitch because those of us who feel that way about the show don’t watch it, therefore, probably don’t even know what these losers are wearing. However, those folks who do watch is a captured audience and this would be free advertising for A&F.

A&F is a terrible store to begin with….my 11 yr. old daughter who is a small at any other store has to where a large at A&F…great way to give a preteen a good body image, they should just close their doors, no one will miss them!!!!!!! And if they have to pay someone not to where their clothes, they should pay my kids! What a waste of internet space this story is, really and truly! A&F should get their priorities straight!
I have never seen This Show Jersey Shore, but I have heard about it and hearing about it is enough to know that it is a waste of my time to watch. As far as paying someone not to wear their clothing, it makes no sense.
1. Making this statement just made more people aware of JS
2. There is such a thing as Promotional consideration when a TV show use any brand name. So just increase the price of the Promotional consideration to make it unattractive to the users or simply refused to authorize it and have your legal Dept earn some of their retainer.

I agree with ‘quinn’, don’t give these guys a dime! If they are giving the label a bad name, then counter that by giving your $ to charity. these flash in the pans will be done and over in due time. Or go sponsor a good new kid to promote the clothing on tv or movies or music vids.
Good idea C-Dub. Pay a respectable celebrity to wear their clothes – that would make more sense. I bet our Canadian Pop Singer, Justin Bieber would wear some. He’s got the public’s attention and he is currently the wealthiest teen celeb right now which shows his people have promoted him successfully.
OMG… A & F are getting all this free publicity and I’m sure that’s all they’re after…. their clothes aren’t anything special and neither is Jersey Shore…they are both smart for making a ton of $$$$ for what they are.. all the power to them! They each have their fans and followers and who wear’s their clothes or who watches their show should be nobody’s business! This is FREE AMERICA!! Do we really want someone to tell us what we can or can not wear??? Or what we can or can not watch on TV… come on …leave them all alone .. don’t be jealous of their success .. you have control over your own choices which should be enough!

I am sorry, the people on that show are a tragic waste of life. I am glad that AC&F are making a point of keeping there image a positive one. I will go out of my way to shop there.

I actually like the Jersey Shore show.
J-Woww is actually pretty smart, Vinnie is ok, Snitchuation- he is just a little trouble maker and kind of creepily annoying.
Snookie-she seems ok and kind of smart to make so much publicity for herself and make $$ like that.
I don’t think any of the people on that show care what we think, they have to much $$ to really care.
Even suggesting they would pay for the boycott is a form of advertising in itself; now the company has the focus of controversy circulating in the media and there will be “talk” – if this offer is rejected it will still have been spoken of(the show consists of quite a lot of gossip & banter.. and when interviewed on talk shows it will be spoken of as well), published, and brought to the attention; there are people who hate the show so blindly they would clap A&F on the back and say “Good for you!” and there are people who would buy the clothing just out of spite for this.. either way the company cannot lose this… Situation. It was a smart marketing move no matter the outcome.
This is likely a bad attempt at a publicity stunt. Under advertising law, they wouldn’t be paying the cast to not wear the clothing if they didn’t want to be represented. They would be suing (as is their right) to remove any visible identifiers.

I am so so happy that people are finally realizing what a bad show Jersey Shore truly is! The life-style the characters on the show lead are very un-moral, it is about time that someone pointed it out. The show is a waste of time.

i honestly hate a lot of clothing stores. if there clothes were better and not always small then i would shop there, my 14 year old cousin cant fit into their clothes and do you know how hard it is for kids these days the media has to put so much stuff in their heads that they HAVE to look like barbie dolls, now she doesnt eat just starves herself, crys every freakin day, wants boob surgery:/ and talks nasty. i hate todays generation.

Not much different than Hillfiger when he made comments about certain Blacks wearing his clothing line. Either way, who cares. You sell clothes, people with money will buy them. Business is business.
This just in…. The Italian government has official petitioned the US State Department to cease and desist the Jersey Shore cast from making any references to Italy or their “reported” Italian heritage. Quoting one Italian government official…”I think they look more Portegeuse than Calabrase”.
In a related note, the Government of Portugal has ordered the Italian government to retract all claims of the Jersey Shore cast having any historical / geneological connection with the country of Portugal.
I hope they tell A&F to go F themselves in the A!
I can’t stand Jersey Shore (never even seen it but I don’t think in this case that I need to in order to get a feel for what it’s about) and A&F is lame too. if anything though, A&F should just SUE those Jersey Shore rejects for defamy…tho to be honest, I’m not sure the desired A&F wearer is any less obnoxious.
