Abercrombie & Fitch will pay reality star not to wear their clothes

By Alexandra Heilbron on August 17, 2011 | 50 Comments

Abercrombie & Fitch are asking Jersey Shore‘s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino to shop elsewhere and stop wearing their clothes because they’re embarrassed at being connected to him or the show. They released a statement Tuesday saying they have a “deep concern” over the connection between him and their clothing and are offering him a “substantial payment to wear an alternate brand.” Sorrentino, aka “Sitch,” and his Jersey Shore pals have been seen wearing clothing clearly labeled as belonging to Abercrombie & Fitch’s line, including a pair of sweatpants he wore on a recent episode that had ABERCROMBIE written in big letters on the left leg. They wrote: “We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans.” They’re also offering to pay off the rest of the Jersey Shore cast, as well as the producers. Jersey Shore airs on MTV Canada and follows a group of Italian-Americans.

Ick. I can see why they wouldn’t want to be associated with him.

  2. Sara • August 17, 2011 @ 10:58 PM

I don’t know why anyone watches this show to begin with.

  3. Jacob • August 17, 2011 @ 11:29 PM

I have never seen this show but think this is a snobby attitude by Abercrombie and Fitch. I won’t buy their stuff.

  4. quinn • August 17, 2011 @ 11:34 PM

Abercrombie and fitch should’nt pay them not to wear the clothing. The Situation and all the maggots will be gone in a minute. Give the money to charity. Hopefully a charity which will teach young people never to behave like morons and sluts.

    Ouch is that too nasty?

  5. nobody important • August 18, 2011 @ 12:31 AM

    …those jerk-offs give Italians a bad name.
I refuse the watch the show; heck, I can barely stomach the previews.

  6. Tayderhead • August 18, 2011 @ 1:11 AM

What is he trying to show under his shirt? He has no abs and the body of an eight year old.

  7. Joe • August 18, 2011 @ 2:48 AM

its pathertic, ther gettin paid more money now to do sweet f**k all besides change ther clothes, ugh itd b so nice to b one of these ppl, totally stupid and gettin paid for it, if life could b as simple as that for all of us… pfft who am i kidding if the rest of the world was like them, we would b f**ked,

  8. haha • August 18, 2011 @ 5:25 AM

Those are some ugly looking abs.

  9. Plaid Cat • August 18, 2011 @ 5:27 AM

The guy is a total embarassment, he and Paris Hilton should marry and together they would have one brain cell. If I were Abercrombie & Finch, I would just ask the guy to stop wearing their clothes and advertise the fact – but not pay him.

  10. Lori Weston • August 18, 2011 @ 6:47 AM

I feel that by paying him or any other member of this horrible show for not wearing the clothing is exactly what these morons want! The appear to do absolutely ANYTHING FOR MONEY!!! These reality show morons are an absolute waste of time and space as they love the media following them. They should all get real jobs and real lives and leave the rest of us to our own. Abercrombie & Finch do not need to pay them for not wearing their clothing!

PLEASE REMOVE MY PREVIOUS COMMENT. THANKYOU

Those kids are poor excuse of humans except maybe Pauly D. and Vinny who seem to have more common sense then the others. I watch the show because it makes me laugh to see them behave so poorly and get in stupid fights. “Situation” is the dumbest guy I have ever seen on TV, that habit of always showings his abs makes him such a D-bag.

Am I the only one who thinks he looks like Pauly Shore?

  13. Mark • August 18, 2011 @ 7:12 AM

Every now and then, a moment of truth…

  14. Vanessa • August 18, 2011 @ 8:33 AM

They shouldnt have to waste their money to make someone not wear their brand…but I guess thats what everything is about now…get paid to do/not do something.

  15. jjjones • August 18, 2011 @ 8:33 AM

Although I think that JS doesn’t deserve to have air time, I’m a little perplexed by Abercrombie & Fitch because those of us who feel that way about the show don’t watch it, therefore, probably don’t even know what these losers are wearing. However, those folks who do watch is a captured audience and this would be free advertising for A&F.

I’m a little puzzled by this business sense. Do Mormons’ own A&F? (and I don’t meant any disrespect by this comment)

  16. Mary Lou • August 18, 2011 @ 9:24 AM

A&F is a terrible store to begin with….my 11 yr. old daughter who is a small at any other store has to where a large at A&F…great way to give a preteen a good body image, they should just close their doors, no one will miss them!!!!!!! And if they have to pay someone not to where their clothes, they should pay my kids! What a waste of internet space this story is, really and truly! A&F should get their priorities straight!

  17. Judy • August 18, 2011 @ 9:52 AM

I have never seen This Show Jersey Shore, but I have heard about it and hearing about it is enough to know that it is a waste of my time to watch. As far as paying someone not to wear their clothing, it makes no sense.

    1. Making this statement just made more people aware of JS
    2. There is such a thing as Promotional consideration when a TV show use any brand name. So just increase the price of the Promotional consideration to make it unattractive to the users or simply refused to authorize it and have your legal Dept earn some of their retainer.

    Enough said

  18. MovieMarco • August 18, 2011 @ 10:17 AM

    What is that?
They, they call it a Snukee.

  19. Julia • August 18, 2011 @ 10:47 AM

Don’t blame them. These people are just sad. On the other hand, little nervy of A&F to dictate someone’s choice of wear. What happened to “there is no such thing as bad publicity?”

  20. C-Dub • August 18, 2011 @ 12:21 PM

I agree with ‘quinn’, don’t give these guys a dime! If they are giving the label a bad name, then counter that by giving your $ to charity. these flash in the pans will be done and over in due time. Or go sponsor a good new kid to promote the clothing on tv or movies or music vids.

  21. jjjones • August 18, 2011 @ 12:51 PM

Good idea C-Dub. Pay a respectable celebrity to wear their clothes – that would make more sense. I bet our Canadian Pop Singer, Justin Bieber would wear some. He’s got the public’s attention and he is currently the wealthiest teen celeb right now which shows his people have promoted him successfully.

  22. Janet • August 18, 2011 @ 12:52 PM

OMG… A & F are getting all this free publicity and I’m sure that’s all they’re after…. their clothes aren’t anything special and neither is Jersey Shore…they are both smart for making a ton of $$$$ for what they are.. all the power to them! They each have their fans and followers and who wear’s their clothes or who watches their show should be nobody’s business! This is FREE AMERICA!! Do we really want someone to tell us what we can or can not wear??? Or what we can or can not watch on TV… come on …leave them all alone .. don’t be jealous of their success .. you have control over your own choices which should be enough!

  23. Jean • August 18, 2011 @ 1:09 PM

I think Pauly Shore and the Situation are twins!!! A&F is friggin nuts anyways! There clothes are crap too!

  24. Anon • August 18, 2011 @ 1:26 PM

oh! What a wasted opportunity for such a sweet headline along the lines of “Abercrombie & Sitch”.

  25. Wendy • August 18, 2011 @ 2:50 PM

I’m with Quinn…..No attention and they will fade away…hopefully sooner than later.

  26. Brandon • August 18, 2011 @ 3:00 PM

I am sorry, the people on that show are a tragic waste of life. I am glad that AC&F are making a point of keeping there image a positive one. I will go out of my way to shop there.

  27. What? • August 18, 2011 @ 3:16 PM

Everyone is entitled to wear what he/she likes? If Abercrombie & Fitch disagree, they can just go out of business.

  28. tammy • August 18, 2011 @ 3:17 PM

I don’t blame them this guy is a joke and it really pisses me off that these fools are considered celebrities and make more money then the average hard working everyday joe I can’t believe that this show is still on television and that people actually watch this stupid crap they drink tan fight cry whore themselves around and god knows who else and if your gonna go flashing your abs around all the time why even wear a shirt? As far as Abercrombie and Fitch I’ve been in their store once and walked out laughing I mean honestly even if I was loaded I wouldn’t buy their stupid looking clothes for the prices that they ask for and true to say only idiots would spend that kind of money on simple clothes with a stupid name brand on it.

  29. mags • August 18, 2011 @ 3:17 PM

Just released today that this is just a publicity stunt,,, imagine that eh……

  30. Rachel • August 18, 2011 @ 3:51 PM

Abercrombie and Fish is already known as a “Douchey” brand.
Those ads with the popped collars just adds to that.

I don’t know why they would actually pay someone NOT to wear their clothing.
They should be doing the opposite and actually pay people to shop there.

I guess Abercrombie and Fish (I know it is not spelled like that, lol) is trying to seem more “exclusive”.

I guess the A&Fish brand is for those “cool” ten year old kids thesedays.

I actually like the Jersey Shore show.
J-Woww is actually pretty smart, Vinnie is ok, Snitchuation- he is just a little trouble maker and kind of creepily annoying.

Snookie-she seems ok and kind of smart to make so much publicity for herself and make $$ like that.

I don’t think any of the people on that show care what we think, they have to much $$ to really care.

  31. Bag • August 18, 2011 @ 4:07 PM

Even suggesting they would pay for the boycott is a form of advertising in itself; now the company has the focus of controversy circulating in the media and there will be “talk” – if this offer is rejected it will still have been spoken of(the show consists of quite a lot of gossip & banter.. and when interviewed on talk shows it will be spoken of as well), published, and brought to the attention; there are people who hate the show so blindly they would clap A&F on the back and say “Good for you!” and there are people who would buy the clothing just out of spite for this.. either way the company cannot lose this… Situation. It was a smart marketing move no matter the outcome.

  32. Kobie • August 18, 2011 @ 5:07 PM

This is likely a bad attempt at a publicity stunt. Under advertising law, they wouldn’t be paying the cast to not wear the clothing if they didn’t want to be represented. They would be suing (as is their right) to remove any visible identifiers.

  33. LuvMyVamps! • August 18, 2011 @ 6:56 PM

YUCK!!! I wouldn’t what him wearing my duds either!

  34. RockandRoll • August 18, 2011 @ 8:07 PM

I am so so happy that people are finally realizing what a bad show Jersey Shore truly is! The life-style the characters on the show lead are very un-moral, it is about time that someone pointed it out. The show is a waste of time.

  35. c_0638 • August 18, 2011 @ 8:17 PM

Hahaha that is awesome I just gained tons of respect for A&F!

  36. Susan Hubley • August 18, 2011 @ 8:40 PM

They should pay us all not to wear their clothing, why single out anyone.
Freedom of expression ppl. I wish I could get paid to not wear a certain clothing line, or shoes or food or for just sitting on my ass doing nothing.
Seems he’s already over paid as it is.
It’s probably a marketing gimic, gets them attention. Some will now want to wear them because of this.

  37. shit • August 18, 2011 @ 9:01 PM

    how much ?????

  38. Melody • August 18, 2011 @ 11:46 PM

i honestly hate a lot of clothing stores. if there clothes were better and not always small then i would shop there, my 14 year old cousin cant fit into their clothes and do you know how hard it is for kids these days the media has to put so much stuff in their heads that they HAVE to look like barbie dolls, now she doesnt eat just starves herself, crys every freakin day, wants boob surgery:/ and talks nasty. i hate todays generation.

  39. Ashlee • August 18, 2011 @ 11:47 PM

i agree with you melody and i feel bad for your cousin:(

  40. tol • August 19, 2011 @ 1:11 PM

what kind of logic is that; if everybody pays him he will have to go naked

  41. The Intolerant • August 19, 2011 @ 3:06 PM

Not much different than Hillfiger when he made comments about certain Blacks wearing his clothing line. Either way, who cares. You sell clothes, people with money will buy them. Business is business.

  42. Hugh Mungas • August 19, 2011 @ 3:13 PM

This just in…. The Italian government has official petitioned the US State Department to cease and desist the Jersey Shore cast from making any references to Italy or their “reported” Italian heritage. Quoting one Italian government official…”I think they look more Portegeuse than Calabrase”.

In a related note, the Government of Portugal has ordered the Italian government to retract all claims of the Jersey Shore cast having any historical / geneological connection with the country of Portugal.

  43. Des • August 19, 2011 @ 4:20 PM

I hope they tell A&F to go F themselves in the A!

  44. yay • August 21, 2011 @ 12:31 AM

I can’t stand Jersey Shore (never even seen it but I don’t think in this case that I need to in order to get a feel for what it’s about) and A&F is lame too. if anything though, A&F should just SUE those Jersey Shore rejects for defamy…tho to be honest, I’m not sure the desired A&F wearer is any less obnoxious.

  45. Debbie • August 21, 2011 @ 9:14 PM

Maybe Jersey Shore and Abercrombie and Fitch make a good couple. I’m not saying what kind of a couple. Lots of attention, though!

  46. Jane • September 6, 2011 @ 9:57 AM

Wow, Abercrombie & Fitch must have some really messed up in the head execs to do something like this.

I got a skiphop when I had my first and I still use it seven years later! After six years, one zipper doesn’t work and it’s finally showing some wear on the bottom, but I still love it. I also love that mine is a kind of army green color becasue DH takes a lot of turns being the main caregiving parent and he isn’t embarrassed to carry it. What I didn’t like about it is the velcro would sometimes snag my clothes, but now they have switched to magnet closures, so that is way better! The top is sorta narrow, I guess, but it was never a problem for me. I’ve used it for three kids.Do you know of a cool purse for a college

He does provide a complete guide to Jetpack,a plugin that WordPress promotes but fails to adequately explain. And make sure you require users to have Java installed, along with Flash, Windows Media Player, QuickTime, Comet Cursor, and goodness knows what else, in order to use your site properly.

Generally, the larger projects have high visibility, longer time frames and bigger capital demands, said MacDonald, the managing partner of Craton Equity Partnersin Los Angeles. There are enough Ada Monroes in the world!. The downside is someone may have worn it first, for it to be so cheap, but a lot of the time the stuff is brand new things that people bought and forgot to return before the refund date, or maybe got as a gift and didn’t want it.Business lines of credit provide investors with a new flexibility which is proving to be highly valuable.. Rob Ford will apologize for something. Oh my Goodness what a mess! It will break your heart!!!!!!!!!!. Just as Australia has benefited for half a century from relatively high levels of immigration, which has led to a dynamic and diverse cosmopolitan society, so the constant flux of international students enriches our understanding of the world more broadly and our small place in it, as well as presenting daily challenges of how to live ‘together in difference’..
