Action-packed releases open today

Pompeii races ahead of the pack this weekend and brings to the big screen the tale of two lovers who must race against time. Kit Harington and Emily Browning star in this actioner about a slave-turned-gladiator who must save his one true love while fighting against the erupting Mount Vesuvius. Kevin Costner leads the cast in 3 Days to Kill, an action thriller about a terminally ill government hitman who goes on one last mission. Hailee Steinfeld co-stars as Costner’s daughter Zoey, who he tries to reconnect with. The Japanese animated fantasy film The Wind Rises opens in limited release today. It’s a fictionalized  biography of Jiro Horikoshi, an aspiring pilot who went on to become an exceptional airplane designer. To find showtimes at your local theater, click here. ~Yara Matar
